HAVE A SAFE WEEKEND .
Just catching up from a week at the beach. It was actually cooler in fla on the gulf than back home in SC. Hope the girl watching my plants watered enough, tho I heard we got a bit of rain.
Deejay About that prickly green plant with yellow flowers. I don't think thata a celandine poppy. I have one of those poppies and they only thrive in shade and do not have prickles. I think you were right to think it was a cuke or more likely from leaf shape a watermelon. Could be from someone spitting seeds in garden.
Especially if it's growing in sun, definitely. Melon type thing.

Afternoon Faye, how are you guys doing?
We finally got rain here last night and this afternoon! ^_^ Now the air is full of termites coming out of the ground! YUCK!
Linda Kay wanted to comment on that little morning glory on the other page....what a cutie baby....just want to squeeze them they are so darn cute.
Happy Birthday Deejay, so sorry I missed it....hope it was a good one.
No rain here. They are declaring the whole state a disaster for the corn and soy beans. Everything is going to sky rocket because corn is going to be very expensive next year. We have been in the 90's this week but they are say triple digits next week and possibly for the next 12 days, which will be a record breaker.....
Work has pretty much eaten me alive the last two weeks, no time for anything and so tired when I get home it is all I can do to go out and water. Not going to be able to do any of the swaps until work settles down cause I just don't have any energy.
Debra what a great picture, ra? You are too young for that!
Yes, I am too young for RA, Joyce. I am not looking forward to our weather forcast. I have been working on getting everything to afternoon shade that needs it when I am able.. it seems that the day is just not long enough when you work 9 to 10 hours a day.
Home today recovering from a bout with accute bronchitus again, went out and took some pictures.
this area used to be the bean patch, it is full of tomatoes I started from seed and a lonely roma that I bought, it is the only one not growing well, go figure
now we have an assortment of vines crawling up the poles, and all kinds of plant seeds I thre down in the areas between the tomatoes.
i pulled some more beets and u can not believe how big they are. I also am still cooking yukon gold potatoes from the patch to the north.
we got enough beans to last us two times a month for the next year. this is a big deal since last year we didn't get anything..
elephant ear in back by dog run
patio shot from back door
south side patio
south fence with new arbor
north west corner view
better than last year, but still not like it was in 09 and 10, those were great gardening years.
Faye, I have found a cream that really works on hands and feet, it is called working hands.
Love your garden areas Debra! Sorry your not feeling well! Get some rest.
nice gardens Debra Hey we finally got about 1/2 in of rain this evening wish it would rain all night . we sure need it but know it won't happen .
off to fix super ya all have a great evening .My night to be with daddy;)
give Daddy a hug from me, please.
The asphalt got watered in the kc area proper, but DH said maybe 10 drops at the house... ;(
Our beans are not crisp but really rubbery can't eat them at all and the chickens and ducks don't even like them. We have been using soaker hoses. Maybe I will try a fall garden. Anyone ever do that?
Beautiful pics Debra, I know your temps have been higher than mine but you must of gotten more rain, because you have alot more green than I do. I will take some pics at my sad site. Boy I feel for you all in Texas cause I know I haven't had anything like you all.
joyce, I WATER BEFORE AND AFTER WORK. OOPS durn caps lock button is too close.
Morning everyone!
Susie, how did the sale go?
morning LK. Joe and I had to wrangle a huge maple limb that the high sudden winds last night blew down onto our mercury cougar. a few scratches, but then Joe decided to climb a ladder and cut down two more iffy limbs. these trees were about 4 ft tall when we bought this house, now they are huge trees. it rained all around us, but totally missed us. sheese!
I took some of shoots off of a cross brug I grew from seed from PHICKS. the mother plants is very big, but like the others , she is struggling. I am struggling with going ahead and bringing them all back in. At least they bloom in the basement for me.Kaitlyn and Betty Marshall are the only ones Y'ing and looking healthy.
Sorry about the car, hope the scratches aren't too bad! My brugs are struggling too. I only have one NOID that has y'd and has 3 tiny buds on it. maybe they will be late summer bloomers?
I am hoping when it cools off at night they will begin to flouish. I have them all in shade in afternoon, but the heat is horrible.
all the morning glory blooms you posted are in my garden too. I love them, don't you? I have your bag of moon vines coming in the mail to you, and a setosa too. look it up, you will love it.
I love morning glories! They are so pretty!

susie
I do too. LK.
Gee Susie, how exciting! Are we up for a house warming party yet? LOL
Wish I could ya'll some of you our rain that fell Friday afternoon and again late afternoon yesterday. Friday's was scare, but yesterday's was slow and steady for well over an hour with thunder boomers close enough to warrant unplugging the modem and our laptops. With the humidity I'm not sure how much good the rain did though. The pavement on the asphalt in front of our house was steaming, and this morning I still had to water baskets and containers. It's time to consolidate what plants are still alive from the eight hanging baskets, and figure at this sad point they're all fill one medium to large size pot.
happ, check out these Fall and Winter crops in the KC area that are pretty much the same ones that grow here: http://www.kccg.org/gardening/seasonal-vegetables
We haven't grown green beans for several years but remember my Mother dunking limp rubbery ones in an ice water bath to help them plump back up. Maybe yours aren't too far gone. That's bad your fowl housed in the taj macoop won't even eat them.
Wednesday I took a friend to the UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville for a couple of tests, thankfully all's good with her. Thursday morning with a three hour lull, I drove the short distance from downtown to Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's home and estate, and thoroughly enjoyed the guided tour that lasted the better part of an hour. There was a family in our group from India and another one from Australia. We were on our own after the tour to stroll the grounds and gardens. There were signs in the lower parking lot that visitors could only take photos of the outside of the home, so I didn't bother to carry my camera on the shuttle bus, but did manage to snap these pics with my iPhone. Among many other interests, Jefferson was a diligent seed-saver, and it is purported many of the old-fashioned plants for sale outside on the Visitor's Center patio are direct descendants. I really meant to pick up a Brown Turkey Fig seedling before leaving but got side-tracked with a call that my friend was alert and ready to released. These are shots of the huge, ultra-manicured veggie garden we can all aspire to, especially if we had a full-time staff. The views from Monticello up on the mountaintop are incredibly awesome! We were told President Jefferson perched on top of the little brick building to oversee his veggie garden and the many slaves who toiled in it.
Awesome little side trip you had! Love the pictures!
