My Musa Basjoo is growing out of every pot I throw at it.

Randers, Denmark

I've got this Musa Basjoo. It measures 45cm in height and grows in a pot which measures 36cm in diameter and 36cm in height. It's only a month and a half since I uppotted it and the roots are already coming out of the bottom.

It looks a bit stupid since the pot is so big and the plant is so "small" and another problem is, pots in that size is not cheap.

Should I prune the roots or something? I'm just so afraid to do something wrong and accidentally kill it.

But I just can't keep potting up every two month...of cause, if that what it takes, that's what I'm gonna have to do.

They grow to tree-like proportions, it will outgrow being a houseplant. Quite cold-hardy, though, do you have a place you could plant it outdoors? Check out the PlantFiles page on it: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1251/

Problem is, I only rent the house I live in. But look at this picture, it seems my plant should be able to grow much bigger indoor, but as is goes now, it rootbounds SO quickly I can't see how it is possible to have such a big plant as the one in the picture in such a "little" pot.

I think the problem lies in your choice of plant material. It's just not realistic to select a plant that's genetically as vigorous as Musa and programmed to grow to a very large size, and expect it to play nice in a smallish container. You have little choice but to pot up. It's root system is as vigorous as the top, and the plant's vitality will quickly begin to suffer from root restriction if you rely on that condition to slow growth. It's sort of a catch 22 situation.
