Your Neck of the Woods Chat Summer 2012 Part 1

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

It is going to be a great trip Julie, Josh & Jen are coming with their families. Family Beach Trip.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Holly -- that sounds fantastic! I love that the whole family will be able to be together!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

We will be missing Jamie's family Jamie, Deb and JR. They have been very busy at Scout Camp this summer. They are leaders and also volunteer at the Camp. JR has had a very good summer being up there quite a lot.

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

We're looking forward to a family beach vacation also. Can't beat the beach areas for having something for everyone. We are renting a house at the beach in Rehoboth within walking distance to Rehoboth Ave. so that we don't need to move the cars. We do daily morning walks to the book store right after breakfast or after dinner. There's great fishing and boating nearby and wonderful free entertainment nearby at night.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Roses- that might be in our next summer plans- at this stage ( big teens/ young adult) I think we're better with just going like that and letting them drop in for whatever they want.

Best wishes for everybodies good weather/ safe travel/ etc etc the rest of summer.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Yes, It works very well for our group. They don't even all come down at the same time. The twins are coming with Jen's children for the whole 2 weeks. Jen's DH and Josh's SO are driving down at the end of the first week and staying thru the second. Jul's group is coming in late Sat or early Sun and staying till Thursday. All of this is subject to change. We are taking the Jon Boat, kayaks & bikes. Everyone is contributing to diners and Ric and I have offered to babysit if the younger gang want to go out for diner or hit the clubs. Each family group will also have some activities just for themselves I am sure as well.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Have a great time, Holly and Ric.

We are having a ball, thanks, everyone. Yesterday we spent the night at soferdig's place in Kallispell, MT. My shirt was soaked from all the drooling I did. Their gardens, their view. It was a fantastic visit. Nice to put a face with a nme . That's why I loved going to the swap at Holy and Ric's.

Heehee visions of my grandson accordioned Into the gokart are priceless!

I am not able to post any pics from icab on my iPad anymore. Aagghhh!

Jeff saw a grizzly today as we were driving near Glacier Nat'l park.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

WOW, A grizzly.
Aagghhh! Is right my Lap Top crashed last night. It has my pics for the Photo Contest in it and this weeks contest is to be submitted today. Not to mention that I was taking it along on our Vacation.

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

You realize of course Lap Tops were created as War Boards(lol) Not funny as that though,I know the feeling.

As for grizzly bears, Brings to mind family and the weather lately. I should not be that way , Should I? tee hee.

Love the bears ,nice, they even exist at all anymore. Some knew what they were doing when they made the park service,Splendid IDEA absolutely, "BULLY just BULLY"!!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Hmmm... Are you channeling Teddy R? Heehee.

Well, we are spending a few hours in the ER in Grand Forks, ND. Just for fun! NOT. Jeff wasn't feeling well all night and while we drove today, soooooo for him to even suggest having it checked out means he doesn't't feel well. Better safe than sorry. Will see what the doc says. Got a room for the night at a best Western with a medical discount coupon. The blood enzymes seem okay, his BP is a little high, EKG was not normal though, but not alarming. Guess who will see his doctor when we get back home?

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

I certainly hope all works out well !! Hope it is only a little stress and excitement. My Eldest parent was a cardiac patient for decades. Relaxation can get stressful if your homesick or driving too much,I've been there.
Near as I ever been to where you are is S.D. Buffalo National Park, smelled it for ten miles before arriving there.WOW do those guy's have an odor(LOL)

(Guess who will see his doctor when we get back home?) PA,PAW?

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Jan- I am sure it Jeff will be fine--but am sending a big hug and bedtime prayers for you both anyway. travel upsets all our schedules so I sure hope its just that (not eating, drinking and resting as you would if you were home)

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

They will take a second blood sample to check the enzymes in an hour to compare. Then hopefully we'll get discharged.

Heehee, those bison do smell

Thank you, all!

Jan, I have been there, away from home with a medical emergency. Very scarey. Hope all turns out well and you are soon back on the road homeward bound.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Thank you. Jeff has been discharged and we will follow up when we get home. Now for some sleep.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Very thankful for his discharge. I hope the rest is smooth sailing and this becomes just an anecdote about the trip.

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Godspeed, Jan and Jeff.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Thanks. We stopped for lunch in Duluth, MN. After this I'll be off line for a few days probably.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Be safe and check in when you can. We are rooting for you!

Nice! g.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Thank you. We have been in MI since Sunday night. Just able to get online today. Will be driving home tomorrow, Wed. Slept in the last two days. It must have been a 'bug' that got Jeff. Our son and DIL in Oregon were also sick. Thankful it didn't hit me that hard. Still, he will followup with his doctor once we get back to NJ.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Hope everything goes well Jan, and be safe. Our drive to OBX went pretty well. We had some tremondous rain here yesterday AM. Our internet has been sketchy at best, seems they lost 2 of 3 antennas 3 weeks ago in a storm. The term tar heels comes to mind. LOL Ric

We may not be online much, this is the first I've been able in 3 days. Ric

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

I agree with Jen. Enjoy!!!

Home again!! yippee!!! We are kind of vegging today and not overdoing it. Went to the grocery store, got my hair colored and had our neighbor over for dinner. Good to be in our own bed!!!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Holly's computer is still out of commission and somehow when packing we missed the boot disc, but did remember the fishing rods. LOL I'm using Josh's lap top to stay in touch. Here's Josh and his fishing buddy, Lily. Ric

I just read a very inspirational post about garden design ideas for a small space.

http://gardenrant.com/2012/08/thomas-rainer-small-garden-ideas.html

Really good information from the VA-based landscape architect Thomas Rainer. I wonder how expensive it is to hire him for a consultation...

I'm already subscribed to the Hayfield site but found out about Mosaic Gardens through the article.

http://www.mosaic-gardens.com/index.html

Such wonderful pictures!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Good reading, thank you!! I need to make a copy of that list of suggested plants.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

GITA! did you see Latvia Men's Volleyball whup USA last night? I know you are proud!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

NO--I did not! Bummer!
You need to get on the phone and call me when you see this!!! I would drop everything to watch it.

More than anything--I have been impressed with the US women's V-Ball--much better than the men's.....
both team games (6 players)--and beach doubles. Man! Can they move!!!! WOW!!!
I love watching volleyball--as I "understand" everything.....

Tonight the US beach V-Ball girls whooped the Chinese--NOT easily, mind you.
Before that--the same two amazing women whooped Brazil. Both games were played in rain.
Makes it hard on the legs--as wet sand does not move like dry sand--it just clumps...

This means the US women's beach doubles can now play for the Gold.....I bet they will win!!!!

Closest I ever got to such important games was in a "Nationals" that were played (long time ago)
in Baltimore. I was one of the Line Judges...as I was a certified, Regional Referee.
Must have been in the early 70's????

Lookie here.....

WOW, Gita Just love seeing those pictures. Volleyball is one of my favorites to watch.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Vball is my favorite, too!! I am more careful now about who I try to block at the net after foolishly trying to block my 6'3" son's spike. Dislocated and broke a finger on that one. Heehee

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I'm sure you're whole family is really good at it Jan

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

hee hee Jen

I think the womens final is tonight.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Good one, Jen. I am amazed at the skills of the 10 yr old.

3 months to go for the next grandy, but we had a scare this afternoon. I kept the kids while Rachel went to the ER. Turns out it was a combination of Braxton Hicks contractions and heartburn. We'll be watching closely. Little early for the BH contractions I think.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Sally--Yes! The women's final is tonight. However--both teams playing are US teams...
SO! Us is guaranteed the Gold--and the Siver....Should be interesting.
Wish I knew exactly the time....Doesn't say in the TV Guide....

I will be hanging in to see it!

Just an FYI---I met my Husband-to-be because of Volleyball.....we were both SOOOO into it!

Just for you Holly----

He is center front---#13. 1970
Back line--right...#13. !971

This is what my family has been up to (yesterday) written by owner!

"Just Dancing Gardens & Greenhouse
There are many things I love about this business I am in. Today's reminder of why I do what I do: a mom with her two sons, one 6 and one a year old, and her mother-in-law visited late this morning. The 6 year old was wildly enthusiastic about all the plants, asking questions as we walked around. He was looking for the perfect plant for his little garden at home. He was so appreciative of all the p...
lants exclaiming "your plants are awesome!" The passion and appreciation of growing things alive and well in our future. He left with the perfect plant and a handful of blueberries we picked off the bushes in the display area. His mother left totally thrilled with the lovely vine basket I planted up for her. His grandmother left in love with her new plants that she will enjoy outside until cooler weather and then bring in for the winter. Smiling customers happy with their plants and their experience...yes, that is why I do what I do."

The gardening goodlife.
