Oh Jen, How nice can't beat a family get together at the beach. Are you going to the Swap at Sally's this fall?
It's pouring rain again tonight. Big storm blowing thru. It was pretty hot and steamy today. I got a lot of work done this morning, Dug out a chrysanthemum that just had to be moved. Divided it into smaller pots to bring to the swap. Hope they will do OK this isn't the best time of year for that type of work. Planted a few things, did a little weeding.
Your Neck of the Woods Chat Summer 2012 Part 1
jen, love warm water at our mid atlantic beaches, after getting s poiled by trips south
Poured a long time in glen burnie, few drops at my house, bummer
Elated to report a generous inch of rain last Fri nite and .8 inch yesterday plus another.2 an hour ago. No survival watering here for at least three days.
Hope rains come as needed and prayed for to all parched lands and peoples and nature in all its forms be refreshed.
It's raining again here now.
I'm gonna try to make Sally's swap
It's supposed to rain overnight and tomorrow morn...we didn't get anything today even though it looked like we were
Let me know and I will bring your chair.
Finally, rain here, an inch
We got 3 inches last night.
Square feet of your property times "0.6" equals approx gallons that fell on your yard per inch of rain.
We got rain twice yesterday and again this morning, misting and a cool 74 degrees right now,HOW SWEET IT IS!!!!!
Some of this headed toward some of you during the next day or two,if it makes it there enjoy the cool before it goes back to 100,the day after.etc. us tomorrow..
LOL, thanks Holly, will do
yes finally have rain a little over an inch
Sally -- we have a half acre (about 20,000 square feet). If it rained one inch, that means 20,000 x 0.6 x 1 = 12,000 gallons fell on our place? Wow! And a gallon of water weights over 8 pounds. So that is over 96,000 pounds of water -- 48 tons - falling on our little neck of the woods!
Hey hap, that deserves a "heavy water" joke,I wish I knew one(lol)
happy, amazing numbers aren't they? Thanks for doing the math so I don't have to....lol
Raining again today and sooo cool. Had fun out there weeding and putting in some Crape Myrtles and Miniature Roses. Moving some pots with Callas and other stuff out of their spots among the Vinca (empty spaces are soon filled in). I'm enjoying getting wet and praying for rain every where.
LOL Roses, I was just out there with you today. I spent hours out there weeding. The cool weather was really great for me to weed the junipers. I have needed to get into those junipers and do some serious weeding. I needed a day where I could wear long sleeves and long pants and today was perfect. I got about 1/3 of the hedge done.
Will do!
Oh, no! I sure will! Thank you for letting us know...

thanx Sally
Any report on Sammie? I hope and pray the surgery was successful. He is gorgeous and looks like he has a heart of gold.
Thanks, Chantell! I'm glad to see the happy reports!
Ric and I went to a Historic House and Garden Tour yesterday. We didn't do the houses just the gardens. It was really nice, came home with a free Hosta, there were light refreshments, cookies and such with cold bottles of water. Three of the places had wine tasting, one served sangria and another homemade lemon aide. The gardens were just beautiful. Think I will put together a thread with pictures from the tour .
For those of you that like to play with your cameras there is a great fun on going Photo Contest. It is a teaching tool for Photographers so you don't have to be really good to compete. Every few weeks there is a new theme and there are Scavenger Hunts. Ribbons are awarded not just for the best clearest pictures but also composition, funnest and other things depending on what the theme is.
Come and check this out. http://cubits.org/PlaypenGraphics/forums/view/photo101contests/
Hmmmm? Always like photo stuff...
Organizing our van for our trip back across the country. Will leave Oregon tomorrow, camping as much as possible. Wed. we will stay with soferdg and his wife in Kallispell, MT. He is a former DG member. Continue on to Michigan to visit a dear friend who is like a mother to us. ETA in NJ is late next week.
The grandies left yesterday for their respective camps. DGD went with her cousins to their church camp and DGS went to race camp. He LOVES NASCAR so a week of go kart racing is right up his alley. This will be his 3rd year. There are only 20 campers. I'd love to see a pic of him suited up and his size 18 feet sticking out. I also think he will need to fold up his 6'5" body to fit inside. He really does love it.
Jan---
Please give "soferdig" a big "hello" from me when you see him.
Tell him he was one of my favorite posters on the "Poetry on a Pile" Thread. On the "Soil and Composting" Forum.
That was a lot of fun! I guess it just "composted" and died a natural death.
Anyone wanting a few chuckles---take a look and read all the ditties and Poetry on this Thread made on the spot.
It even went to TWO Threads.....I tried to revive it a couple of times, but there did not seem to be any new interest.
So sad!!!! I guess it really DID get buried "under the pile"........ Have fun! Gita

Will do, Gita!
Jan--Thank you!
Actually--I just checked--and the last Post on part #2 was only last year around Thanksgiving.
SO! I resurrected it once more--with a pile of short "ditties"--my favorite way to do Poetry on the pile...
Check it out.
It makes me sad
To think of all the folks we had;
Writing Poetry on the pile.
Then the words got all rotten
Only Compost was gotten--
And our gardens were not so bad!
Gita....:o)
Jan, Sounds like you are having a great time traipsing across the country and back. What fun. Sounds like the Grandchildren are going to have a great time, too. WOW your GS is a tall guy.
Gita, you are more than welcome!!!
I admire those who can write. I struggle with putting my thoughts to paper.
Holly, he is only 14, too. he has Weaver's syndrome. Not very common and we don't really know what to expect. We just love him the best we can. He may be their 'forever' son. His hormones are starting to kick in. I know kids can be cruel, but pray he can surround himself with "true" friend's. So far that has been the case. He has far surpassed what was presented when they first took him into foster care then adopted him. We are thankful!
Oh Jan, He must be a wonderful boy, Whatever challenges he faces in the future he will have a loving family to help him through it.
Thank you. Definitely very loved.
Been busy mowing and weeding all that green last weeks rain brought, only 2 more days left to get the place in shape before leaving for 2 weeks in the outer banks. I hate taking Alfie to a kennel, but can't trust him to not run away. We visited where he is going last week, it was very nice, and the 3 ladies we met seemed very professional and caring. I hope to find a place down there, that I can take him to where I can visit and do most of his care.
We have a hort student that lives nearby coming to water and Cricket Hills SO, Larry is coming to take care of the chickens, pool, and whatever. Good Friends let you relax on vacation. 8
Have a fantastic time on your well-deserved vacation. I hope it rains every 3 days while you are gone, and that the weather doesn't go above 80.
enjoy your trip!
Vacations are always more meaningful for people like you, who are always on the go. Enjoy!!
Holly and Ric, I know your vaca will be better without any Alfie Great Escapes! lol, my pets were always less resentful if they went away, too, rather than being 'left behind' poor babies.
Safe trips for you and cross country Jan.
I hope to get up North before blueberry season ends...
Jan -- I missed your posts about your DGS and your trip. Your DS or DD who fostered and adopted him must be wonderful and caring -- it can be heavy lifting to care for a child with genetic issues. I love the image of him accordion-ed into a cart having the time of his life!
I hope your cross-country trip is a wonderful adventure. Say hi to sofer from all of us.
