Morning Glories 2012 #04

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Maybe I planted a mutant sd on the fence and the one I posted is not my youjiro.
I've long since forgotten and thats what happens when I dont stick a label in the ground.
Something strange this morning with my Blue Lavender Beauty, orig sds were from Becky,
I had Blue and Lav blooms open at the same time. This one is in my lg tub out back.

Thanks Jackie and Linda. I love your mutant, beautiful bloom! Your no mai not and Pandy are really pretty too. My computer shows your no mai as a pretty pink-not purple. Is that the color?
For some reason my Pandy has not been blooming much, don't know why.

They are all so pretty, sure wish I had one of each, and the place to grow them!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Thanks Helena, and Linda. I thought the Purple no Mai looked purple yesterday but todays bloom was definitely pink.
I will have another one open tomorrow and we can see what color it blooms. The one I'm calling
purple came from sds I gathered from this bloom from last yr. It was a no Mai that made purple colored blooms

Funny how they can produce so many different colors from one seed!

Gautier, MS

Jackie, that is a beautiful bloom! I like those b/c they differ each day.

Blue star

DFNM x Keiruy, after all those bloom, still not a seed maker.

Duskie x choco-light, not a seed maker either.

Helena, thank you. That was last yrs purple bloom. Guess I'm not going to get any purple no Mai"s this'year.
Gorgeous blooms you have today. Wish I had grown a Blue Star.
Linda it is amazing how they can make completely diff blooms on the same vine. One reason I
love these MG's.
Todays no Mai is pink, oh well. I like it anyway.

Love your pink Jackie. You can get a hint of the bloom color from the color of the vine but I guess it's not always reliable to count on.

Only had these 3 repeat blooms but I'll take them anyway.

Lovely blooms Helena,. Love the bold, lacy purple. Your turquoise is outstanding.

My Lav Beauty had 2 blooms open this morning but the sun got to them before I got up this morning.
Guess I will drag the big tub over into the shade.

I have a problem with the potting mix I used this time. Drying out so bad everyday so I wonder if thats
why my blooms are so slow coming.?? Very disappointed.

This is an unknown from 07 so now I can mark the pkg as Star of India. I love this one.

Gautier, MS

Thanks Jackie. Your Star of India is very pretty. Nice dark color.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Thanks Helena. I have 20 or more pks of sds marked as unknown, I would love to be able to put names
with all of them.

Gautier, MS

Jackie, I hope you can grow your NOIDs and name them.

Here's what bloomed today.

Helena,
Do you plant your morning glories seeds directly in the garden or do you start them early indoors?
The morning glories I planted have all stalled out about 2" tall. I still have hope . . . just not much.
I did get a late start though so now I'm planning for next year.
I'm thinking about starting them in gallon pots in the green house as early as possible, like February or March.

Gautier, MS

Thanks Linda, that one is Ipomoea tricolor, Blue Star. Another one that I like and should start seeds of Ip. tricolor, Flying Saucer.

Dee, I do start my seeds early in Feb and early March either inside or green house. I also planted mine in gallon pots with mixed soil, some old and fresh. I grew mg's all winter in my gh under heat lamps and got some neat ones too. It's a good idea to start planning now for next year.

Prescott, AZ(Zone 7b)

In my spare room I have a 4 foot adjustable height plant light with a tray and full size heat mat. I figure I can start them there in January and then move them into the greenhouse in say March. I'm starting to collect seed from various sources too, the more unusual the better! I have some perennial white tree morning glory seeds coming, that's exciting. They are a Mexican native so they should be good for my area. Here's a photo of my best bloom today . . . not a morning glory unfortunately, LOL.

Very pretty blooms Helena. I love the star shaped Blue Star too. My Flying Saucers tends to do that too I guess since they're both Ip Tricolor

Nice bloom Dee

My Japanese Asagao opened another bloom this am.

Gautier, MS

Thanks Jackie. Your Japanese Asagao is very pretty.

I like your pretty Sunflower blooms too Dee. I think your light set up will work good for getting your seeds started early.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

evreything is so pretty. has anyone grown any seeds out I sent? just curious.
i have planted all seeds from everyone, waiting for the blooms to happen now.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Debra, some of my blooms may be from your seeds, I put them all together in containers. I really need to start labeling mine to keep better track of them.

Gautier, MS

Just these for today to enjoy.

This small bloom is Lav Sazanami. The vine and blooms are stunted. I dug it up from the yard, sorry dirt
I guess.

Thumbnail by patootie
Gautier, MS

Thanks Jackie. I really love those blooms too but it's a shame that it just refused to make seeds.

Jackie, I really love your Purple No Mai not. Your blooms are really nice and pretty. Your Lav. Sazanami reminds ,e of Lav. chiffon.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I agree with Helena. I have vines everywhere.. had a speckled from Jackie blooming, but missed the pic of it.. sorry Jackie. Maybe this weekend?

Prescott, AZ(Zone 7b)

Well, every day I come to this place and drool over your blooms.
The only MG I've had bloom is a "President Tyler" and it was only 4 inches tall!
I am excited about my "Giant Moonflower" germinating though, even with only two leaves it looks like it is going to be huge.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

in this area is about 25 different species of wild and wonderful morning glorys..there are areas all over the yard back and front vining like this, I am using wooly yarn to train them to the arbor..
