white chalky spots on cucumber leaves
Have you had a lot of rain, or have you watered and got the leaves wet frequently? If so, your white spots might be powdery mildew. It could also be an infestation of mealy bugs, they resemble white powder sometimes, although I would not describe it as "spots".
A photo would be helpful...

shawn47 - once powdery mildew arrives, it's very hard to get rid of. It likes cool, wet conditions.
First be sure you have powdery mildew. The leaves will have a greyish mold on them which will spread quickly. Remove all affected leaves and throw them in the trash (not the compost.)
When watering any vegetable, keep the water at the root zone. The worse thing that can happen to plants is that they get too much water.
does that include watermelon

shawn47 - Yes. Melons require more water than some other vegetables, but you should still keep the water off the leaves.
Melons, squash, and cucumbers are rather susceptible to powdery mildew. I used to live in South Florida and could never get them to grow there. I have the reverse here. It rains very little in the summer, and have more squash than we can possibly eat!
Rule#1 - Never get any veggie leaves we(purposely), you're just asking for problems.
This maybe helpful. I use a few different ones at different times.

Is the mildew on top of the leaves or bottoms? If top, Powdery Mildew. If on bottom, Downy Mildew.
