Trying to figure out which would be better for terraces, 5' wide, many times that long. I'm going to plant a 5'x20' in irises, and another in daylilies. Would it be better to have the irises which bloom first, in the back, while the daylilies are still growing. Or the daylilies in the back and you have to look over the spent iris foliage to see the blooms......? This is SEVERAL sections I'm doing. I could do 20 feet of irises, 20 feet of daylilies, 20 feet of irises, 20 feet of daylilies, and alternate on the second row...
Thoughts on arranging one in front of the other????
irises in front of daylilies or daylilies in front of irises
All depends on the variety and how tall they will ultimately get, short ones should go in the front and I'd mix them up so there is something blooming in each section
I like the mixing idea, but I was worried about lilies overpowering irises if I mixed them, crowding them out... no? And since these are BIG sections of color, I wanted to plant a sweep of color... course if they bloom at different times.... mmmmm.....
(Love the DG forum )
No they won't crowd them out as long as you space them out with consideration to their mature size
Love DG too, it's AWESOME!
