I have a mister lincoln rose bush who has been trampled by the neighbor kids who were painting the fence between our properties. there is nothing left of the growth on this bush except for a dormant twig sticking up out of the ground. Any ideas for what I can do? this bush is very precious to me because my son picked it out for mother's day.
help save... mister lincoln
Roses are pretty tough. I would give it some TLC and watch for new growth. If, however, they broke it off below the graft, you may get rootstock flowers instead of P.L. Can you post a picture?
Find out what type of paint was used as some kill off plants.
Also agree with Kwanjin and give lots of TLC, maybe cut any broken stems back to a good bit of green as any broken stems have raw edges and this allows disease to enter the green woody stems, Gently hand fort around the top soil and give a comercial Rose feed as directed on packet, pleanty water and wait see if it bursts into growth again, give it time as the Rose can make good growth after lots of damage but maybe not flowering this year, just extra attention with watering, sunshine and tenderness ha, ha, ha, I like to think all Roses are ladies.
WeeNel.
