Hubby mowed down blackberries & grapes - will they come back

Lakeside, CO

Today my DH, in a commendable effort to get the upper hand on the weeds, took the lawnmower into the back yard and wrought great destruction upon the greenery along the fence. Unfortunately he also mowed down the blackberries and a Concord Seedless grapevine, both of which I'd planted last year! I am wondering, should I order new plants, or is there a chance that the fruits will come back if we water them well? (They were mowed to about 1 - 1.5 inch stubs...)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated... thanks!

My guess that the blackberries will be fine. They obviously won't produce fruit this year. How far are they set back, I don't know. The only experience I have with grapes is the wild ones we have. Those you definitely can't kill by cutting them to the ground. If your seedless Concorde is on it's own roots I think it will make it. If it is grafted, then I'd be worried that the root stock would produce the new growth and not the top. You'll have to check with the place you bought them. Hopefully it's a nursery and not a big box store who wouldn't have a clue.

You know in a couple of weeks if they start to regrow and I don't think you can buy plants this time of year anyway.

Did your DH leave any of the grape vine pieces that you could take cuttings from to root?
