I have a small collection of Leycesteria Formosa and Clerodendrum Trichotomum that I grew from seed 2 or 3 years ago. None of the plants have flowered yet and I was wondering if anyone knows how long they will take before they do? They are decent sized plants now and I was thinking that they might do something later this summer but don't want to get my hopes up! Any ideas anyone??
How long to flower from seed?
Lynn, In searching around I found some anecdotal info on L formosa...they all stated that from seed the plants started blooming well in the second year, full sun, and cut back heavily in spring as they only bloom on new wood. I couldn't find much on the span from seed to blooms for the Clerodendrum...most was on 1gal transplants that bloomed the second or third year. They do bloom on old wood.
That's great news, thank you themoonhowl. I had not cut back my L. Formosa this spring due to our extremely mild winter but it has produced plenty of new growth. They are both supposed to bloom late summer so I will live in hope....
You are welcome Lynn. If the L formosa does not bloom this year, I would recommend cutting it back in the spring....from what i read folks said they cut it back severely...
Good luck, I hope this is the charm year for them...and do post a pic when they do bloom.
Moon
Moon, the L. Formosa is blooming!! I will put up pics soon...very happy!!
Hurrah! Great news Lynn...looking forward to the pics.
