Growing Garlic

Hi I have a question about growing garlic .I planted garlic this spring (as opposed to last fall) I planted it the end of April as od yet I don't see any signs of it growing . am I just being impatient / How likely is it to grow /

I would have expected you would see little green shoots emerging through the soil by now, have you been watering it, garlic being part of the onion family only require there little bulbils to be planted JUST under the top soil and if you dont keep an eye out for them, the birds peck the cloves out the ground and you find them laying on top of the soil. I am assuming you planted the garlic cloves all split up and not planted the whole bulb in tact.
