Yellow leaves on daylilies

Big Lake, MN

I divided and transplanted daylilies to this site last fall and the plants came up fine. We had a 6 inch rainfall in about 2 days and the leaves have been turning yellow ever since. What can I do? I have fertilized them and water every day.

My guess is too much water. They shouldn't need to be watered every day (unless maybe it's been hot and you have really, really sandy soil), and with 6 inches of rain in 2 days on top of you watering them every day that sounds like way too much water (and yellowing leaves is one symptom of overwatering--other things can cause similar symptoms but given the info you've shared I think overwatering is the most likely) I would hold off on watering until you can stick your finger down a few inches into the soil and feel it starting to dry out--and going forward I'd use that finger test to decide if you need to water or not, and I anticipate you'll find you need to water a lot less than you have been. You may have gotten away with watering that frequently last year when you first planted them, but now that they've had some time to get established they won't need that much anymore.

Thank you so much for replying!! I usually have such great luck with this plant. I will take your advice. Hopefully they will start to green up again.
