ANSWERED: may night salvia dead heading

Hello,

I have some may night salvia and the blooms are gone...though i just planted them about 3 weeks ago. I thought rubbing the stems and making the little buds fall off was enough for them to rebloom. Do I really have to cut the stems...right to the bottom?
