While waiting for a response, you may want to check out these articles here on DG. There are three or four dealing with fertilizer and its' use.

The best organic fertilisers I know are easy to make yourself.

1. Get your hands on a couple of shuvles of cow poo, place in an old pillow case/ sack etc, tie this at the top, drop this wrap into a barrel /large container of cold water and tie the sack to the top of container, make sure the barrel / container has a cover to keep out any flies ,light etc, also make sure the poo is hung in the water.
To use this rich water for watering onto your plants, you must dilute it to the strength of weak tea, any stronger will be too rich, you can use this mixture after about 6 weeks as by then the fresh fertiliser will be ready. As you first pour the liquid from the barrel it will be dark brown so you must dilute this till it looks like the colour of weak tea, my Dad and Grand-dad made this for all there gardening either flowers, bulbs, veg etc, and it can be poured onto foliage too as there is no chemicals to burn the foliage.

You can make the same type of fertilisers from nettles, those plants that give you a rash as you touch them ha, ha, ha.
Use the tops of the plants, not the roots, place the nettles into pillow case or sack as before, do the same tie up onto the top of barrel / container, cover and leave to turn into a soup for about 6-8 weeks, every week, give the bag a lift up and down in the water (it will smell at this point) lift the used nettles out the water and throw into the compost heap if you have one. You would dilute the brown / green water as for the cow poo strength, dilute till the colour is like week tea, believe me you will be surprised at how much fertilisers come from a few cow poo's or a bucket of nettles.

Horse poo etc will be as good as cow but dont mix the poo with the nettles.

I can still remember the red face I had every time a horse dropped a woopzee outside our house when I was a child and was asked to go out with a bucket a get the manure, now as an elderly adult, I cant understand the red face now, just shows you how you change as you mature.

The other good fertiliser is from the garden center or on line, it's seaweed extract, you have to dilute this the same as your own home made stuff, need it to look like weak tea, I use this for indoor plants every 5-6 days as I water, stop using it outwith the growing period and any left overs can be used the following year where as soluable stuff goes off I feel.

Hope this gives some ideas on saving money and good for the plants.
Good luck, WeeNel.
