I want to graft crabapple to my apple tree so I can have it pollinate my apple in the spring. Crabapples now are just starting to grow fruit but there are some branches with no fruit. How do I graft?
How to graft crabapple to apple tree?
Are you in an extremely remote area with no domesticated plantings anywhere around you? (That's not exactly how I picture New York State, but I've never been there... ;-) ) The reason I ask is that apples and crabapples are very commonly grown for ornamental and food purposes in most northernly areas, such that pollination can be counted on from the local population of apples and crabs. There is not usually any need to plant more than one tree in order to ensure pollination.
If the crabapples you speak of are in your area, then they and any other apples/crabapples in the area will probably already be pollinating your apple.
These are wild crabapples and no there are no crabapples near my house. I want the wild crabapple species I like it a lot!
