Morning Glories 2012 #02

Overland Park, KS(Zone 6a)

Hi! I am new to DG.
Where do you all get these unusual (at least to me) morning glory seeds?
I am familiar with Heavenly Blue, Grandpa Otts, etc. that I see the big seed companies carrying.
I love the pictures I see here! I also love the idea of the morning glory garden!
Looking forward to sharing your ideas!

Prescott, AZ(Zone 7b)

Hi there Gardenblue2! Welcome to Dave's Garden.
I'm getting my seeds from a seed collector friend but whenever you find something you would like at Dave's Garden you can ask about it from someone who has it, just click on their name and that will give you access to send them a Dmail. Also when you look on specific plant pages in the Plant files you can access people who have the plant for trade by clicking on "Members who have or want this plant".

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

Great photos, everyone!

Gardenblue2, hi & welcome to DG! If you check out the PlantFiles here at DG, you can search the database to see which cultivars are available for sale from vendors as well as by trading with other DG members. There have been several generous members who have sent me seeds to fuel this addiction, and I'd be willing to send some to you, if you like. Feel free to send me a "D-Mail!" Here's a direct link to a search of the PlantFiles just for Japanese Morning Glory (which are mostly the kinds you're seeing here) -- http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/adv_search.php?searcher%5Bcommon%5D=japanese+morning+glory&searcher%5Bfamily%5D=&searcher%5Bgenus%5D=&searcher%5Bspecies%5D=&searcher%5Bcultivar%5D=&searcher%5Bhybridizer%5D=&searcher%5Bgrex%5D=&search_prefs%5Bblank_cultivar%5D=&search_prefs%5Bsort_by%5D=rating&images_prefs=both&Search=Search

Here are some of the blooms I had this morning...
Hope all have a good weekend!

Dee hope you're feeling better.

Helena, That's a pretty DFNM bloom #2. .I love how its so variable.

Gardenblue, thats good advice from Dee. You can always send the poster a dmail and ask if they have sds to share.

Beautiful blooms Nick. I like all of them.

Xiongs last yr, one of my favorites

Nick, those blooms are gorgeous. If my friend doesn't come through with some seeds soon I'm going to start begging for seeds. I don't want to bug her she hasn't been feeling well but Spring is rapidly turning to Summer.
There's not a single flower on this post I wouldn't love to have.
Dee

Thanks all. Love your beautiful blooms Nick.

Some of my rare blooms came from a few ebay sellers in mix seeds so I had to sow lots of seeds to find the rare ones. Some of my blooms this year also came from special generous friends. I'm enjoying them and sharing the pics with you all.

So glad to finally have a couple of blooms. My old standby Blue Youjiro yesterday and finally my pandy
today.

Beautiful blue youjiro and Pandy Jackie. So glad you finally got some nice blooms! Sorry I didn't mention it this morning but I was kind of in a hurry.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Thats ok Helena. DH and I were rushing too and I;m not a morning person.
We finally went and purchased the gkids a nice trampoline before the day got so unbearably hot
Hoping to get them outside more this summer
More lovely blooms you had this morning

Gautier, MS

My gkids would love that too, but we joined the pool club just so they could have something nice to do too!
It's nice in the mornings here but we need rain really bad.

I had this bloom yesterday, it's not Blushing Bride but very similar from one of my crosses with Pink Porcelain & choco bloom.
The others are repeats.

Here's the rest of my repeat blooms!

Helena, very pretty. I wonder if Pink Porcelain isn't one of the parents of Blushing Bride, they look so
similiar.
In the 2nd block of pics, I love the purple with the wide white border more all the time, just a lovely
M/G.
My 13 yr old g son belongs to our city pool but we don't take the girls because they're younger and we can't stay up there all day with them. I can't get anything done now as it is.
We'll just put their small pool up here for them to cool off in.
I might have to get in it with em, :-)

I'm not a morning person either! I'll set my alarm clock so I don't miss the a.m. show. Then, if it's possible, I'll sneak back into bed for an hour or so. Sounds kind of crazy, I'll admit. But, that's the only way I'm going to see the true glory and get my daylilies hybridized. :)

Last night we had some surprise storms which ruined some of the MGs (& daylilies), but we need rain, so I didn't complain. This morning's best bloomers were...

A solid light blue growing where 'Morning Moon' is
'Denim Mix'
"Bright Blue for Blue Lovers"
'Morning Whispers'
"Chickencoopdark"

Y'all keep posting those wonderful photos that are so inspiring to see! I might be absent for a while, so take care everyone!

Those are very nice blooms Nick. . I like the splash of color on the 1st bloom.
The 4th bloom resembles Count Dracula somewhat.

Gautier, MS

Thanks Jackie and Nick. Really nice Pandy bloom Jackie and very nice show of blooms too Nick. I don't know about the parentage of Blushing Bride cause it was "A" cross and very special too. But I'm happy with my cross too.

Had to get up early today too but it really wasn't by choice. Been a morning or two that I almost missed the blooms.

But this morning most special bloom is Q1298. Similar to one I had blooming last year!
The rest repeats of coarse!

Helena, Is the 1st one Q1298? Its a beauty but I'm crazy about # 3 and that last bloom,
a gorgeous lavender
We had a light rain in the wee hours. 1st rain in 3 weeks or more.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

gorgeous blooms everyone, I am in florida, so can't post my blooms back at home, but boy the florida natives are sure cool!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Debra, I hope someone is taking pics of your blooms while you're away. We'll
enjoy them no matter when you get to send them. :-)

Prescott, AZ(Zone 7b)

I just love the blues!
But I'm also partial to Helena's #3, wow.

Gautier, MS

Thank you ladies! Yes the first is Q1298 and the 3rd is Q117, I really like that one too cause it's a bit different every day.
Debra, hope you enjoy your trip in Florida but hey show us the FL natives. We'll enjoy that too!

#2 is Q1298
#3 is My Pink blzd cross

Lovely blooms Helena, the dark Azuremore Choc is striking with its dark color.

Our rain didn't amount to much, we're hurting for rain here too

I loved the wide white area on this Saz, the ants did too..

Beautiful bloom Jackie! We are getting a little bit rain right now but do not know if it will amount to much.

Elena , Q117 is beautiful !
Here is the picture of KU ....somewhat different : http://mg.biology.kyushu-u.ac.jp/mg-files/strainlist-brandnew/06catalog-large/images/0117-0002.jpg

Gautier, MS

Thank you Dany, Q117 is quite striking. I was hoping that it would be like the one in your link but maybe there is still hope. I like Danjulo a lot too. Thanks for the links.

We had rain and some of my vines were knocked down, but thank God the rain finally came.

I apoligize if anyone that got emails from my account, I did not send them. Some virus got hold of it and sent, just don't open it. Glad I got back a whole bunch of failure to deliver.

Here's blooms from today.

Helena, your DFNM's are wonderful this yr. Loveliest blues I've ever seen.
Gorgeous Blushing Bride. I don't think mine even germinated.

Need to repot the largest ones this week.

Thanks Jackie, just an off morning I guess. Barely had a cup of coffee before had to chauffer older gkid around. Feel better now. Hope all is well with you.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Helena, yes we are all fine here thanks. I hear you about the coffee. I don't want anyone to even look at me in the mornings until I've had 2 cups of coffee. :-)

Gautier, MS

Sunny here with a nice breeze! Have 2 new blooms, nice cause they are not what I was expecting from the name on the lables.

Jackie, I'm glad everyone is fine!

Helena, I recognize that the beautiful light blue is new. Is the pretty dark blue with a star your other
surprise bloom? Both very pretty

Pandy this morning.

Thumbnail by patootie
Gautier, MS

Thanks Jackie. Your Pandy is having pretty blooms. Yes the first 2 blooms are new ones that need transplanting too. Here's a better picture from yesterday, I moved the vine. I'm not getting a lot of blooms, guess the vines are taking a rest. Time to feed them. (SP)
