I have been told to water new planted trees. I have been advised to get a hose and soak the new plantings. The one thing I have NOT been told is HOW LONG to soak the new planting.
I planted two dwarf plums one day ago, in prepared soil with water retention crystals, and it has been raining on and off for about a day.
Tomorrow brings clearing with a few showers, and then Brooklyn will see three to four sunny days. Should I get the hose out and soak the little trees? They stand only about 10 inches out of the ground at this point.
thanks
Heather
a tree watering question-
No, you should not soak them every day and especially not if you've had any significant rainfall... they're not aquatic plants. ;-)
A pail of water once a week, if there's been no rain, is reasonable.
Thank you for the clear advice- and the laugh! "aquatic plants" heh! Yes, they are beach plants, they don't live in the water, just near the water.
