Swapping & Chatting Ric & Holly's Swap The Last Week

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Me too! I just started adding that to my tags as well! I used to just list the botanical name, but now I add height, width, sun/water requirements, special requriements (for example, "ends dormancy late") and most important, who gave me the plant. I am so much happier with the new approach. Though if anyone visited my yard and actually looked at the tags, they'd think I was half-mad -- with notations reading "critterologist" "sallyG", "Gitagal", etc.

THanks, Chantell!

WIth regard to other "excuses" for a gathering, I'm all for that! Our "iris adventure" turned out to be just 3 of us, but it's fun to see who else might be able to go along on something like that, or to meet up at a flower show, or to go to a garden together.

Orchidfancy has offered to come up to my place sometimes for an "Orchids 101" clinic (she swears she can teach me how to not kill them by inches... I'm not merely an orchid murderer, I think I actually torture them to death over a prolonged period); we just haven't managed to put it together.

Also, I've gathered most of what we'd need (except for the heavy bags of concrete) for a "hypertufa party"... I have gloves, peat moss, vermiculite, and probably enough big dollar store bowls for mixing. I discovered the other day as well that Lowe's carries the "Quickwall" cement mix that seems to be the current rage for garden sculpture creations. That sounds like a fun project for an afternoon.

More parties, more often! Yay!!

Roses, I have your salad grabber. I saw that and knew it was yours. It sure would be nice to come up this summer, We will see what we can set up.
I need a "Orchids 101" I too torture them to death. I have even gotten a few of them to rebloom but eventually they die a prolonged death. I want to do concrete leafs and hopefully I will have plenty of large leaves to do that by summers end.

OH! Holly!!!

That green tote is mine! I had an ice bag in the bottom of it to keep my Seafood pasta salad cold.

I cannot believe I left w/o it! It is a standby for me when I have to bring food anywhere.

Please hang on to it until you find some way this way. DO NOT mail it! it will cost you a fortune!!!

If you know anyone coming this way--send it along with the. I will figure out some way to pick it up.

When you said--"Using a plastic fork to label plants--I SWEAR I saw that in something....
I know "Roses" , who gave me the Blushing Suzy Vine had a plastic fork stuck in the pot as a labeling device.
How clever!!! and--cheap---

I think these forgetful moments happen to us "old-folks" when there is too much going on. NO focus on any one thing!
It confuses our pea-brains as to what needs to be remembered....

If you have to take any food anywhere--please feel free to use my green tote. It is VERY handy!!!

That was me! I used white plastic forks/knives/spoons and black marker for most of my plants. I usually wrote the name of the plant on the front and the name of the person on the back of the utensil. I didn't even think of writing my name on it anywhere!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

My name isn't on most of my plants, either... most are labeled with silver sharpie, some may not be very obvious bec. one marker I was using was nearly dead... but I got really tired of writing "from Critter" on the pots so only the first few have that!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Gita, Got you. We will make some arrangement to return the tote. It is very nice and I will make some arrangement to bring it back. Maybe a trip to IKEA and a stop by your place to see your gardens.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Holly--IF you go to IKEA--I am 5 minutes away!!! Like--1 mile.....

Please let me know. I will direct you. BUT--Do not do this just to return my tote! OK?

Thanks--Gita

If anybody goes to Ikea, please let me know! There's a little frother gizmo I picked up in the kitchen gadget department that I'd like to give as extra little Christmas gifts next year, especially since Bed Bath & Beyond started carrying something pretty much identical tor $10. We use it all the time for coffee, chocolate milk, even jello (since Joyanna loves any "power tool" she can use)... one of those really simple but really clever little things... found the product description, and the price has gone up a dollar since I got mine, but I'd still love to put a dozen of them in our "gift drawer" (and maybe one on the gift table at the next swap, now that I've hyped it!) http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10076320/

Jill - the Ikea in Wdbg is on my once a month store list. Happy to pick up for you...just let me know.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Yippee! Thanks, Chantell.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

That looks like a handy, little tool.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Yep.. I know we're getting really off topic here, sorry.. I use that "milk frother" to add flavorings to my coffee... Ron & Frank's makes these great flavored cappuccino mixes (sugar or splenda) that I like to use by adding just a teaspoon at a time to a cup of coffee... they stir in OK but are better mixed in with that gizmo, even gets a little froth on top. Their hot chocolate mixes are great that way also (dark chocolate with splenda makes a wonderful mocha!).

Now I'll add the link for Ron & Frank's and then we can get back to swap chat. All the flavors of cappuccino or hot chocolate I've tried from them have been great, tea or lemonade not so much. LOL, with the way they do shipping, this might even be swap chat... we could do a group order in time for the fall swap! http://ronandfranks.com/Merchant5/merchant.mvc

edited to add a final digression... I was mistaken about the price of the similar gizmo at BB&B... I just looked, out of curiosity, and it's $20! Same gadget with a fancier name ("Aerolatte") and a case (??). LOL

Sorry I'm late, as usual, but extremely busy, finally rototilling the garden, then raking it out, and finally planting it today. 10 tomato plants, 4 rows of Roma Beans, 1/2 row of tromboccino squash, then 3 black & 3 spineless zucchini, 1/2 row white sweet spring onions & 1/2 row red spring onions, 1 row radishes & 1 row leaf lettuce. So gladthat's done & over. Thanks so much Ric & Holly for a wonderful swap & the welcome to your lovely home & gardens. I think you both slept it off for a couple days. Would you believe, I have only planted the hostas, andwil plant several a day until they are all planted. Have to put a few pix on this thread. It was great to see all my DG friends, both old & new. Judy Showers, Buttoneer. P.S. Bob is still resting but getting better every day.
