Swapping & Chatting Ric & Holly's Swap The Last Week

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

So we have Swapped and Chatted thru 3 threads and what a good time we are having. Here is the last week to finish up.
Just want to remind those that have extra space and extra plants to bring them for those that don't have access to DG.
There will be a door prize table for those that would like to bring something to participate just bring some small inexpensive garden related item to put on the table.
Ric and I are so looking forward to having you all here. Long range forecast looks like they are calling for good weather in our area.

Good news indeed. Will do

Holly---

I think we have chatted and planned for so long because of the warm "winter". HUH??? Winter???
When I think, that I have cared for rooted plants since October of last year--it seems insane!

It was easy to dig up and separate new growths from existing plants as well--with all the warm days.
All that has led to a longer-than-usual Swap planning and chatting discussions.

Now it is ONLY a week away! I can't wait to reclaim my tables and ledges under my patio roof!
My grill's side-shelves are loaded. So are the bucket-tops of my bird seed.

My main table-by-the-house on the patio is like a triage station. Fighting the squirrels digging into any pot
they choose. Knocking my CC's off the big plant stand! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH....

It has become somewhat of a "bother" to have all these pots and plants everywhere....
I say that "tongue-in-cheek"...My satisfaction is that I can provide so many of you with some
well kept, healthy, potted plants. High Five!!!!!

See you all soon!!! Anyone interested in some Spider Plants???? I divided them all today!
They are now potted in fresh soil. Some in HB's and some in deep, 6" pots.
I just ripped them all apart--it was almost therapeutic!......:o)

Jill,
You can give away your old "poofy" Spider plant. I have a new one for you--and also the one for Joyanna.
Hang it under a tree for the summer--it will do wonders for it--and any other houseplants you have.
IMHO--You need to "air out" all your plants from the sun-room. You will be amazed at how much
better they will do and look. That IS the secret!!! Fresh air! Lots of humidity!
You have plenty of tree limbs to hang everything from.

Yes, as Ruby said, Happy Mothers day to all, whether enjoying your own kids or good memories of Mom.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Yes a very Happy Mother's Day to all!! Sally you keep moving...yet stay in MD...how do you do that? Did part of my side job this weekend so I can finish up next Sunday...leaving ALL day Sat. to spend with my DG family. Getting so excited and can't wait to see you all!!!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Thank you, Gita! My hanging baskets and all the containers from the sun room are indeed all out on the deck "taking the air" now. The amaryllises are out, too, but I think I've only got about half (maybe 2/3?) out of their pots and into the garden so far.

My iris from Sally has a bloom today... its unofficial name in my garden is "Dad's Lavender." Thanks, Sally!

Hope you all had a great mothers day. We had a good time at Josh's. The guys all cooked and everyone went through a 9# deep fried chicken, 8#s of London broil, 5#s of steamed shrimp, 5#s of deep fried potatoes, and who knows how many eggs were pickled, deviled, and just hard boiled, I don't even remember all the appetizers and side dishes.
Things are shaping up nicely for the swap, Heck we may even be ready. LOL :-} Ric

Sally, no problem. We tried :-)

I updated my HAVE/WANT lists with names and requests neatly listed. Just before I sent the update, the battery of the laptop died 8-(. I have got all your names and requests down. No worries. I will update the lists again if I can recover from the tragedy before the swap. LOL!

Sally, could I interest you in a pot of the following picture?

Ruby, that looks pretty! (assuming thats me sally not donnersally, since I asked for light coleus!) Thank you; are you sure that's extra? don't let me put you out !!
donner, I will make up for it with a couple daylilies. I can't tell all the colors right not but can tell you which is taller
(cheeesy grin)

Damascus, MD(Zone 7a)

Sally, I probably do not have room for more daylilies in the area that I meant to plant them in. Thanks anyway.

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

I'll be going to Behnke's Nursery this week, before the swap.

Please d-mail me if you'd like me to pick up a plant that's hard to find in your area. They have a lot of unusual annuals, etc.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Well hubby is sooooo busy we won't be driving me up there with the trailer....hopefully I can talk him into at least using the truck

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Sally, I'd love a piece of 'Lucy' please... I found a "Lucy" tag out there with no iris remaining... :-(

I split off a few extra bits from my new 'Raspberry Wine' Monarda (Bee Balm) if anybody is looking for that one...

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Critter: I'd love to try the monarda, but I won't give it a good home (not enough sun) so please give me your weakest bit.

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

Happy- Have you tried Monardas? Most will gladly grow at the edges of woods. All we have is part sun to full shade, and we grow several species and cultivars of Monarda. Our Monarda bradburiana (local native) is currently in bloom planted in the company of Astilbies, Thalictrums and ferns.

I don't know Sally, but they seem pretty happy together. We really like her a lot. You will get to meet her at the swap. Josh is heading north to work for a week on a friends house so he won't be here. I have a few coleus to swap for different varieties not sure how many not as many as I was planing but there are some. Some are Kong Coleus they have pretty large leaves.

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

I have just added 3 Pink Turtlehead Chelone to my "Haves" list. The seedlings looking pretty good (small but healthy)

http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/56961/

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Greenthumb -- I have only tried one or two Monardas -- don't remember the cultivar and it was years ago. I remember now that you mention it that my Mom grew them successfully and her yard was partly shady. My yard is very challening for plants because in addition to being fairly shady, it is mostly hilly and so plants that don't like changes in the amount of dirt on their roots (because of erosion, and then me dumping more soil on to compensation for the erosion) don't do well -- not to mention that we have very clay-ey soil (of course I amend it, but...).

I have some places of honor where the conditions are a wee bit better, but I am always looking for plants that will be happy on the hills....

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

Also looking and adding to my "Haves" list is;

Akahigezaki Japanese Morning Glory

Thumbnail by ROSES_R_RED
Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Happy, the monarda starts are pretty tiny (it'll probably take them another month to fill their 4 inch pot with roots), but you could tuck one into a sunny-ish container for the summer and plant it out this fall.

Roses, I'd love a pink Chelone baby. I can't remember which, but I'm pretty sure I've seen Chelone on the list of butterfly host plants, so it's been on my list of "plants to find." Thanks!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

don't know if I have ever seen any butterflies on mine Jill

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I just googled... looks like Chelone glabra (turtlehead) is the main host plant for the Baltimore Checkerspot... will have to check to see what the caterpillars look like! :-)

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

Oh my goodness. Does this mean that they are caterpillar MAGNETS!!

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

R_R_R - most of your/our plants are being fed on at any given time, it is only when there is large scale munching that it is even noticed. If we didn't have plants that various catterpillar eat, there would be no butterflies. : - (

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Greenthumb---you can be the further voice of reason....

I just tried to send the below Post with THREE pictures attached. TWICE! In about 4 minutes, each time--
it defaulted to the Forums list--as before.

I wrote to Adm. that I had started a new Thread re, problems with my Kwanzan Cherry Tree.
I posted 6 pictures total--two in each post. The went--grudgingly--in about 2 minutes.

As this was a new Thread--there were NO other Posts or "catche" to deal with.

I wrote Administration. Terry checked the size of all my posted pictures and said they were about
half the size of the ones that she was successful posting 5 of.

She suggested that--maybe be my ISP throttle connection speeds at fault--to conserve bandwidth.
And--if that is the problem--it is out of their control.
WHAT on Earth is the ISP throttle Connection????????? What can I do?
********************************************************************************************

OK! I have learned to c/p all my text in a Post when i send pictures. Just in case!
I did that just now. Thank God! I am now going to re-post my Post and add only two pictures and see if they go.
Of course--I will c/p my text again (this one included) in case even 2 pictures do not send....

Here is my original Post today--3:30PM on Monday--May. 14th.
********************************************************************************************

Happy---

I hope you save some of those "Places of honor" for the couple of Brug starts
you will be getting from me. I believe they will be the "Maya"--a wonderful, variegated-leaf Brug.
These are from the new cuttings taken not long ago. They all, seriously, have already passed
the "tug test". Some even have little leaves growing.
May take until next year to bloom--BUT--if they "Y"--they may bloom later this year--like October.

I just finished boxing up EVERYONE'S orders! Hours and hours out on my patio all morning in the rain.
Of course, the wonderful thing about a roofed-over Patio is that you CAN work out there!
God help me to get all of it in my car!!!! I am truly worried!!!!
Besides all these boxed up plants--I still need to bring a chair. And a med. cooler for my Pasta salad....

Was going to bring a small table--but I am not bringing any extra plants to "display"--only those asked for.

1--Here is the "loot"......all asked for! Sorted by names....Also--a good look at my small back yard--
with the "culprit", the old, tall, Silver Maple whose roots HOG the entire back yard.
Looking at the corner bed behind it--only 4' away from the main trunk, This is the bed I always refer to
as my "YUK" bed---in case you ever wondered about it.....

2--These--on the settee behind the boxed plants on the right--all belong to SallyG--coleup--and Robin ("catbird")
I am taking these to sally's early Wed, AM to have the Pre-Swap--Swap. It will lessen the load in all our cars.
Of course, as I said earlier, i will be bringing back all of donners stuff to my house. She will come by Thursday,
after work to get it all--and bring me MY stuff....Aren't we all clever?????

3--Gonna go for 3 pictures.....Hold your breath!
All this stuff--on and around my grill, belongs to donner. She will pick it up and take it home.
I cannot imagine schlepping all of donners and Sally's and coleup's and catbird's stuff to Holly's!!!
I would, surely, need an SUV! All I have is a small Outback.
OK! Hitting "send"............:o(

I am now doing this over again..as my 3 pictures did not send. PLEASE--IF you are having the same issues
go to the DG Forum and read--and follow--and post your own issues on his Thread: Problems with pictures posting".
The more of us complain--the more they will, hopefully do. This is ridiculous!

******Starting over with only TWO pictures per Post.....

1---Here is all the "loot" for everyone's orders. All boxed up! God help me get all this in my small Outback car!
2---This all goes to Sally's. Iit is all of Sally's--and coleup's--and catbird's stuff they wanted from me.
They, in turn, will pass back to me all of MY stuff as requested for them (except donner).
I will p/u donner's stuff and get it back to my house. She is coming after work on Thursday to it all up.
Sound complicated??? Nope! Just a bit time-consuming. But--we all live within 1/2hr of each other.
This Pre-Swap--Swap is a great idea. It will lighten the load for us in the cars going to Holly's.

OK! Hitting "send" again. it better GO!!!! And--of course--c/p'ing the whole text in case it does not...
Getting a bit tired of this!!!!!!

PLEASE go to the DG Forum and chime in on this Thread by Greenthumb if you also want to be heard.
They say they are "working on it"--but this is getting beyond tolerable.

Thumbnail by Gitagal Thumbnail by Gitagal
Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

WOW!!!!
That took "only" two minutes of waiting for it to post.....Grrrrrrrrrrr....

To continue my Post to you all! Gonna do just ONE picture at a time.
I am getting tired of sitting here and typing and hoping and c/p--ing..

1--This is all the stuff that will go to donner when she comes to pick her things up Thursday after work.
......................do I dare to make it two pictures?????

2--Some of the left-overs. NO! I cannot bring these to the Swap. I will not have any room!!!
If I had room--I would just throw these in. As it is, I will have 2 huge pots of Brugs next to me
in the passenger seat for company.
It will take an engineer to fit all things I have boxed up as it is.

Yooo-Hooo, Ric. get that cart ready when i arrive......

Please add your comments here--if you are also having problems.
The more of us speak up--the more they will, hopefully, do about this problem.

Went to my friend's this morning and found out she had broken her toe 3 weeks ago. She hasn't had success with her seedlings, needless to say. She will bring some things that will be available for you all if you want them. I think there are enough people that could use extra things or know someone who does. Nothing is out of the ordinary. They are all perennials. So please feel free to take them.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Gita: Yes, a place of honor for the Maya.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Gita, do you run into speed problems when you try to post one photo at a time (the "old fashioned" way)?

Rain today & tomorrow, so hopefully that will let me catch up with indoor stuff! When it's nice out, I just can't make myself do laundry... LOL

Wednesday's partly-overcast weather (if it happens LOL) should be good for hardening off tomatoes & basils... means to have some of them "out there" last week and got sidetracked.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I stuck a bunch of my indoor things in the greenhouse .. supposed to get heavy rains tomorrow.. don't want to take the chance.. hate this part

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Yep... I was going to put seedlings out all this week, but not with thunderstorms looming!

Jan, sorry about your friend's toe! ouch! Remember that one person's "nothing out of the ordinary" is another's "just what I need!!" :-)

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

She is just very excited to join in the fun, as am I.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Jill---Yes i do!

Even ONE picture takes over a minute to load.

Please go to the link I provided above and read what some other people have to say--
and what comments terry has re all these difficulties.

Do YOU have any problems uploding 3 or 4 or 5 pictures on DG nowadays?

I never did in the beginning--but now it is difficult. I am NOT the only one!

Once more--here is the link to Greenthumb's Thread re all this.
Terry talks about solutions that I do not comprehend. My brain lacks technical savvy.
Gita

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

donner- Okey dokey!

jill- Lucy, gotcha

Jan- glad she can come anyway!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Glad to hear your friend could make it, Jan

I had an issue with the pics when they switched over to 5 pics until I learned I had to size them to the smallest, but I have no issues now, I have a fairly new computer so that might be it

Damascus, MD(Zone 7a)

Gita, the primroses look great! Their blooms are certainly long lasting. I am so glad that you got them for me before they were all sold out. Many many thanks!!!
