Snail sleuth

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

Last year, 2011, I had an infestation of snails. Saw 1 or 2 snails 2010. Last spring/summer every AM I would take a small bucket of salt water and hunt! I found between 5-8 every time, often hiding under stuff on my patio or on the siding of the garage. One morning while carelessly moving the picnic benches I heard them falling onto the patio concrete. I then picked up and dropped everything I could; flower pots, small tables, chairs, etc. From this method I learned many hid under the lip of the flower pots.
I started the 2012 AM hunt last month and have found a fraction of what I did last spring. I think I have this under control and manageable, for now. However, yesterday I did clean all of my flower pots,8+ pots & med to large, hiding under the lip of the pot. The count was probably 6 mature snails and 15-20 tiny.
I had dreams about these critters last summer!
When I visit France I will drink Bordeaux and eat cheese, thank you very much!

Ortho to the rescue. It works and also kills earwigs.

The problem I have found with snail baits is that they attract every snail in the neighborhood! I alternate the ortho product with Sluggo, but I also go out in my robe and slippers in the early morning, and pick and toss (hard) into the street. What the traffic doesn't take care of, keeps the ants occupied.

We frequently have our daughters black lab here. I have bait/killer on my to-get list. I use to apply Corry's brand but w/ the dog visiting gramma's I will get Sluggo or the like. The hosta's and rhubarb are their fav's!

We use slug bait from the company Dr T's Nature Products called Slug & Snail Killer. Worked like a charm and it was organically safe around our dog. You can find it here http://www.drtsnatureproducts.com/store/snail-and-slug-control

thank you for the Dr T link.

Isn't Sluggo toxic to the dogs? Thought I read it on the label.

Sluggo is safe--it has iron phosphate as the active. The dangerous ones are the ones that have metaldehyde as the active ingredient.

Thanks. ecrane3. If the coffee doesn't work, I will get the slug go.
