Spending spree #11

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

yup no blooms this year on
Alteri
Elise
Black Beauty
1 Conc d'ore
Many asiatics.
All is not lost I have planted about 2 dozen bulbs since early April and they arent up yet.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I had 2 spots with black beauty.. don't see those yet either.. keep wondering if the oct snow storm had something to do with it

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Mine were slow to emerge, but managed just intime for frost.Next year

Thomaston, CT

They may make it Jo......I have noticed no plants have come up along my fence where the road was newly paved...it's almost if they sprayed something there, & if I find they did, I'm going to be very unhappy, since my well is in the area!

(Pam) Warren, CT(Zone 5b)

I saw yesterday that my Martagon lilies are coming up... I got them last year from American Meadows, took a long time to decide where to put them, and saw late in the season that they had disappeared. I assumed they were lost, so it was a happy surprise to see them.

Also, the Casablancas and Asiatic Centerfolds have been busy multiplying in the big barrel...yay!

Pam, those don't look like lily seedlings in the barrel, they look like sedum.

(Pam) Warren, CT(Zone 5b)

You are right! The picture I wanted isn't on the iPad-- it's on my camera, yet to be downloaded. Oops! And once it's posted, I don't think I can change it from iCab. I'll try again later...

^_^

Thomaston, CT

The lilies are up here....and so are the red devils....spraying for them when it dries up out there....

(Pam) Warren, CT(Zone 5b)

Yikes! The red devils are already out?! Aaaargh! I can't spray until the weekend...

Marilyn, I guess you mean it rained. Good, we needed it. Last week's flood was just enough to correct the previous dryness. I think I lost a couple of babies, but maybe they're just late because of the cold.

Stamford, CT(Zone 6b)

I'm going to spray as soon as it dries up. Have already killed a bunch of those guys having dinner on my lilies. I stick with organic/nontoxic to humans. I prefer the spray that lasts for a month; has oil in it, so it does not rinse off.

(Pam) Warren, CT(Zone 5b)

Is that Spinosad? That's what I used last year, after I lost a huge stand of Tiger Lilies. Luckily it was before they got to the new ones...

Thomaston, CT

That's what I'm using, although nothing seems to get rid of them completely....I've noticed they don't do much damage to my conca d'ors....maybe the leaves are too tough!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Red Beetles need yearly attention. Its impossible to get rid ofthem completely. Spray when they emerge.Kills the larva.

Stamford, CT(Zone 6b)

I sprayed spinosad. I also bought my regular spray which is also organic.

I pulled off and squished at least a dozen bugs today before pulling out the stuff. This is pretty early to see so many.

(Pam) Warren, CT(Zone 5b)

We had such a mild winter the insect population didn't reduce as much as usual- hard to remember now, since spring has been so nasty...

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

There is a very good article about red beetle on B&D Lily website.
Exterminators here say the early warm spell in March hatched insects early. The bad news is.The season for breeding and reproduction will be longer so there will be more insects than in past years. Get the sprayers handy.

Thomaston, CT

Shoot!

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I picked a few beetles off my lilies a couple weeks ago, sprayed, and haven't seen more yet

Thomaston, CT

Lucky, Deb...they are rampant here.....I've been squishing, but need to spray, but it's too showery....

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

New purchase! It's still a beginner level digital camera system, but that's OK--- A telephoto zoom lense for my Nikon D40,range 55 to 300 mm. I ought to be able to photograph the birds at my feeder, and a few track and field events now, and without a tripod.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Cool - have fun!

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks. Now if DS can only get over the high jump bar to qualify for states.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

nice rosemary - i need a telephoto lens - that blue bird i posted has been sitting on the top of a shovel with a bright red handle the past few days - that would be a great shot with a telephoto.

picked up my replacement redbud hazel yesterday at a specialty nursery it was a big as the one i had and cheaper than expected! potted up the old one and planted it in the "nursery hospital" after trimming it down. I think it will live, it has some growing to do...........

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Bestbuy honored pricematching, so that took a tiny bit of sting out of the price of the lense. They had a huge selection instock, surprisingly.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

anyone know where I can get a living wreath frame? Michaels and AC Moore only have flimsy green wire frames that aren't deep enough for what I need it for

I wanted to do this for centerpieces for mother/daughter breakfast....of course they decided last minute they wanted centerpieces UGH but good thing is I only need to do 4

We went to DSW. Jeff needed some running shoes and since he really hasn't bought shoes, cept for running shoes in the last 10 years or so, I encouraged him to take care of his feet. you can't stretch size 10's if you wear an 11.
Running shoes
Casual work around the yard shoes
Brown shoes for school or dressy casual
Black dress shoes.

He really needed prodding, cuz he hates to spend money on things like that. Now, if it was a tool, that would be a different story.
