Steph - no can do on the RU......we've got relatives coming in from CT, and then soon after the wedding here in the backyard. My DH and I are working like energizer bunnies to get things pretty. WE think the yard is the best part about the property.......but then, we garden! :-)) I appreciate the offer though.....you're so sweet.

everyone's flowers are just breathtaking. have enjoyed just looking at the pictures with my morning coffee. I don't have a lot blooming right now...mine is still just mostly greenery....so have lived the blooming life vicariously through y'all. I guess I will have to get out this weekend and head up to blue moon in edom and see if I can find some more coneflowers. I bought 3 or 4 last year and I am thinking that they must not be going to come back this year. thank y'all for sharing the beautiful pics.

Sigh...I didn't think you could grow PEONIES in Texas, or columbine, or dianthus. Is datura perennial here, or do you have to put it in the garage? I'm drooling at all these pretty flowers. Some of them I have here, and will be abandoning to my DD's care. At best I'll have a few containers on the patio in DFW. Maybe a small rose, maybe a small lily for a short time, maybe a clematis, but I don't see columbine in my future, or garden phlox, or creeping phlox for that matter. I guess I'll have to go to a garden center and see what they have in containers. Will it be too late to start tomatoes (from plants) in June? I know I can't grow peonies in a container. Sorry, too many questions at once!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

You can grow columbine in the shade here. There are a couple of varieties that are natives. :)

You can also grow dianthus. They grow very well here. I have some in my garden that have survived 3 years. They are a very brilliant hot pink.

There are also several phlox varieties that do well. Creeping phlox, phlox pilosa, Carolina Phlox, and John Fannick phlox do great here.

Yay. Hmmm....can't dig in the dirt at new house. I was planning a total container garden, which will work in New England, where full sun is "hey, what's that yellow thing up in the sky? It can't be--is it--I think--yes, yes, that's the SUN!' but I'm getting the idea that Texas is going to be a little different. (I'm exaggerating, it's not THAT bad, in fact we like it here, but I'm planning lots of roses in containers.)

I finished putting in my gazebo and butterfly garden a few of weeks ago and thought I would post some pictures. There is an above-ground fountain that goes in the middle of the gazebo but was moved to allow room for my daughter and her friends to stand for the taking of senior prom pictures last Saturday. Now my backyard is 2/3 raised bed vegetable gardens and 1/3 butterfly garden. There’s nothing more relaxing than watching butterflies fluttering around from flower to flower like they can’t decide which flower nectar they like best.

Being technologically challenged I don't understand why I can only up-load one photo at a time but I'm almost sure it has something to do with file size?.
