Silver plastic mulch?

Does anyone have any first hand experience with silver plastic mulch? I'm starting to see more places sell it and swear it keeps local bug populations down by confusing them. I live in zone seven and sometimes our summers get hot enough to cook veggies on the vine, so I'm worried this stuff could harm my plants (if it does work). I can't find any detailed reviews or the actual studies sites are quoting, so I'm a little weary. Thanks!
