Hello,
Just started my first veggie garden, haven't had a one since me and my grandma shared one when I was a child. Growing jalapeno, cayenne, and a Tami G grape tomato.
So I just have a few questions I need answered. Its a raised bed and I put 100% soil from Lowes(I Live on a small island, figured sand was not ideal) the bag said it will fertilize plants for up to 9 months. So I'm guessing I do not need to add feeders and other items from the store to my soil right?
Cant think of any other questions at the moment, but if anyone could add some advice for a first time, that would be great. Remember first timer so all tips are greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
Garden soil and other first timer questions.
Soil looks okay with quite a bit of organic type materials, perhaps a bit of fertilizer. I do think that you could use a good deal more of it though, you've got lots of board space to work with to add another couple of bags. More soil will retain more moisture that will keep your plants healthier.

A little more soil will probably help if you do have a lot of sand underneath. But, I'd also recommend not filling it to the top and leave room for a good 2" layer of mulch, such as grass clippings.
If you fill it to the top with soil, wind and rain can wash off your mulch.
Fresh grass clippings will add all the nutrients you need this year, but every year after I'd add a slow release organic fertilizer.
For now, I'd leave the plants in place and just add the mulch.
The garden soil from Lowes is dense so i would add shredded mulch perhaps 75% soil and 25% mulch. I would then add compost after the plants are settled.
