Both the pottery and the mudroom show me that gardeners know how to cultivate beauty.
Garden Projects #8
RosemaryK, so sweet and I agree about the color ge1836. Nice pale yellow a perfect color during the Narcissus season and a cheery blue. It makes for a perfect "Mud" room color rather than a drab green or brown, plus you look like you can paint properly. Not me as I am very sloppy.
I went out and did the daily dead heading of the hundreds of tulips and daffs now out. So pretty today. I am off to the Daffodil show this afternoon to drool over the very expensive bulbs some people have. The show winner last year was a 150.00 per bulb green one called N. Mesa Verde. A year later so maybe the price has dropped to 125.00 each, guess I will wait for a decade or two before we have it in our garden. Some shots. I seem to be able to load only 2 at a time, must be too big and I don't know how to change the size. dumb me. Patti
Stunning Patti
Thank you for the nice comments about the mudroom, folks........Patti, Jo is right...those plants are stunning! Love the white pasque, and the orange frit is gorgeous...have fun at the daff show....
It was fun, and I saw tons that I now crave. I met the man, Ben Blake, who is Mr. Daff Seek which is a great and valuable data base for Narcissus lovers.
DaffSeek currently has about 22,400 data records for daffodil varieties. There are about 23,700 photographs in the database, so the system provides a means to identify many daffodils visually.

I think all the national judges are coming to walk through our garden tomorrow which will be fun, if they don't intimidate me too much. So I decided to uncage all the Japanese Maples so the garden looked better for them. I just hope the deer don't decide to eat them tonight.
We hung up Wha's special bird house that he gave me as a gift in a cedar tree today too. We put it where we could watch it easily. Hope someone move in soon. We also have been watering like crazy as it has been dry despite some rain recently and having received another Wha gift of a Gilmour High Rise Telescoping Sprinkler is most useful as it works perfectly for us. Big thanks for both.
More shots from today Patti
Just beautiful Patti!!
Love your mudroom!! Yay for Swedish colors
Love both your blooms and pottery, Patti. I'm sure those daffy judges will be most impressed with your gardens.
Your mud room looks great, Marilyn. Like the colors.
Patti, I'm loving all your blooms. I would love to come and take pics someday, but the cost of the ferry is quite prohibitive for me. I'll just have to be satisfied with viewing your pics.
Got one of my beds cleaned up today. Got a couple of rambler roses cut back, and will be putting up my birch arbor there this weekend. Got the cement mix today. Will be cementing the posts in. Also got a big, bushy spirea cut back.
Patti, you're right, in spite of the recent rain, things are still quite dry. That rain was good for about a week. Now we need more.
Karen
great shots Patti!!!
That garden tour is sure going to be in for a treat Patti.
nice patti and have fun today with the daffy crowd :)
Wow.....cool stuff is right....the tulips look wonderful massed like that. Karen, sounds like you've been busy as usual! Now that the temps are moderating, I hope to be planting soon.....
Busy day, registered in the morning to win a Techno Bloc patio at local garden center, went back at 1 when you had to roll dice to spell out "Techno" to win....I didn't even get 1 letter!!!!! Geez....at least they had free food...
then while hubby was working on moving the hot water heater we went pool shopping and out to lunch, then came back and did some planting till the sun started to set
At the diner where we ate there was a sign in the window for a garden tour on the 12th...cool!!!
What are the chances of spelling out all those letters? Probably a gadzillion to 1.....
Yeah probably....there were 3 people that got 3 letters, so they were going to have a roll off to win a fire pit
Nice, but I would rather have the pavers!
Got my arbor posts cemented in. Now I need to screw on the cross beams and top beams. Then I can train the rambler roses up it. Got a bunch of daylilies planted and transplanted, and got some weeding done. Don't remember if I mentioned having gotten my big load of manure/mulch a couple of weeks ago. Still have not had the time to spread any of it. Yesterday I became very overwhelmed while working in the gardens, with all that needs to be done, feel like I'm pulled 50 different ways at once. That and I'm stressed and tired all the time, and really, I just want more time to work in the gardens. I just wish I could take off work from April till the end of July. That would be so nice.
Karen
Yeah you can get pulled in a bunch of different directions....I just try to force myself to do one job at a time(hopefully the most important), sometimes I think I have adult onset ADD
Well, I've always had ADD. Never diagnosed as a child, but then they weren't diagnosing it back in the 60's and 70's. I've always had the symptoms. I'm not able to get a really good paying job because of it. Would love to get into the medical field, or forensic science, but with the way I forget things so much, get distracted so easily, I can't do those kinds of jobs. I cannot give meds at the job I work now. Fortunately I work with people who are self medicating, and I don't have to worry about it, but it limits me, as I can't take work at a residential home where giving meds is a requirement. I'm med certified through the Red Cross, but I've had too many med errors, and I don't want to screw someone up because of my inattention.
Karen
Wow - that is tough, Karen.
Yeah, pretty much. That's why I dream of having my own business in daylilies and other perennials, though I'd be terrible taking care of keeping track of the financial stuff, paperwork, inventory, etc. I'm not good at all that. I need a partner who is good at it. Maybe someday.
Karen
No ADD tests in the 40's either. I was sure I was retarded because I couldn't retain information and do well on tests. Parents were dumfounded.
I have my own system for doing things and getting a lot done when I need to.
Medication might help....give it a try.....I've had kids who were ADD, & saw a big difference in concentration when they were on medication.....I have several garden projects that I haven't gotten to....edging one with brick must be done this summer.....
I have been told I have SUBTRACT. I cause people to forget...
Or wish they could forget? :-)
Hee hee.
I'll have to find the code number for Victor's subtract disorder :)
Seriously, there are even nonmedical treatments for ADD, and I know people who swear by some of them, though i don't know the outcome studies. The Driven To Distraction author, Hallowell, has a big assessment and treatment practice around here, in Sudbury.
I'm tossing this idea around left side pg #18(even though it says pg 16 on the corner of the page), install slabs to make it look like a chess board and then get the oversized outdoor chess pieces, whatcha think?

How hard would it be to keep the grass trimmed between?
Jen in that catalog Grandin Road they have them....could get expensive!
http://www.grandinroad.com/chess-pieces-garden-art/436764?listIndex=0
that would be an ankle twister for me Jen
:)
I would think the grass would get sparse between the stones after awhile.....
Marilyn, maybe I will check into some ADD medication. I had tried 2 types, each separately, several years ago, but neither one did a thing for me. I will talk to my doctor about going back to that psychologist I was seeing before.
OMG, while checking out Grandin Road, I came across this adorable dog statue! I love it! http://www.grandinroad.com/brutus-the-dog-statue/outdoor-decor/garden-decor/arbors-trellises/440845?isCrossSell=true&strategy=144
Got some potting up of perennials today after doing a plant sale at a friend's house from 9-1. I actually made $65. Not bad for free advertising. I potted up a few columbines, some oriental poppies, and some mulleins. Hoping the columbines and poppies won't shock back too much. They invariably do. Poppies, especially, hate being transplanted.
Karen
I'm thinking you can just weed wack the grass in between.
I belong to direct buy and they have the full set of chess pieces for 1/2 of what retail sells for
Ooooh, love that dog statue...Jen, if you like the chessboard, go for it!
Got a lot more potting up of plants today for selling, and I got my pond cleaned up, finally. Then today I did some more work on my big garden renovating project. Moved some daylilies to that bed, and put in a couple new ones. Also moved a bunch of pink daylilies to a bed that I have been gradually making into an all pink bed. And I put up a huge, iron pipe that we bent into an arch, cemented it in, and will eventually put 2 white wisterias to climb up, one on each side.
