I have 3 bare root Rose of Sharon. Between the roots and the bud union there are several stringy growths. Do I remove these before planting? Thanks
Planting Rose of Sharon
Have a really close look and finger follow these stringy growths to find out IF they lead you to the top part where the branches are or are they really ground roots.
If they are ground roots, plant them along with all the other roots in the planting hole, IF they are side branches turning soft and dying, then cut these off as you don't want then to cause rot to set into any other branches / shoots.
Just plant the plants to the same depth as the mark on the stem /trunk so you don't bury them too deep. add a handful of multi purpose feed to the planting soil to give them a good start and lightly prune after flowering either late summer or early spring.
Hope this helps you out a bit, good luck. Weenel.
Thank you for all of your help!
