I'm in zone 9b/10a Florida. Have shade 3/4 day & it is damp and having soil erosion problem. Looking for a grass that will grow there without the chinch bugs that St. Augustine attracts. Can anyone help me? Thanks
Need damp shade tolerant grass zone 9b/10a FL. Help!
Can you post a picture of the area? Most of the grasses that will grow in damp areas need some sun, and most of the shade grasses prefer drier soil...hence the introduction of St Augustine....a shade/damp tolerant grass. Perhaps a ground cover may work better for you depending on the size of the area you want to cover. Here in So La (9a) we use a mix of Centipede and St Augustine.
You may find this article helpful--it mentions a strain of St. Augustine that's less susceptible and also talks about some other means of controlling chinch bugs. http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/lh036
