Stagnant spider plant

Eagle Mountain, TX

Ive had this spider plant for at least 6 months, maybe more. I put it in a terra cotta pot shortly after I bought it. It sits in an east facing window with a sunscreen. The problem is, it doesn't seem to be doing anything. It's alive, mostly green, but not growing. I've been told these are prolific growers. There are dead leaves, and leaves with brown tips, but not overwhelmingly. My best guess is that I am overwatering. I'm relatively new at houseplants but improving, and I know I've had a tendency to overwater.

Can you post some pictures? There might not be anything wrong--when you transplant something it'll always take some time to get its roots going before it'll do any growing above ground. But, since you have a tendency to overwater (and since that's probably the #1 thing that people do wrong with houseplants) there's a good chance you're watering too much too which certainly won't help things. Before you water, I would always check by sticking your finger down a few inches into the soil and see how wet it feels. The surface of the soil will look dry fairly quickly, but down an inch or two where the roots are it could still be quite wet. Also make sure your pot has a drainage hole, and if you keep it sitting in a saucer to prevent water from making a mess, you need to empty the saucer right away after you water, don't let the plant sit in water.
