How is ray doing?
Sorry about spellings. I am using dh kindle fire and it is strange.
Is everyone staying warm? Our furnace is back on...been down in the 30's. Now 4 days of rain coming ... guess I will think about cleaning house ...rofl thinking is the key word..lol
She's about to... 65... Spring will be here soon!!!
Morning everyone! Praying that ray is still home, and feeling better. Getting proper sleep in your own bed will work wonders too!
We are off for the week-end, going to Austin for a huge hot rod show. Leaving in the morning, and will be back Sunday afternoon sometime!
A few of my first morning glories for the year!
Happ do you like your Kindle Fire?? My Mom got me one for Christmas but I had to send it back because we don't have WiFi here and I am too technically saturated as it is to put in a router. Just one more thing to keep track of and one more place for the system to break down.
LK can't believe you have MG's already. Mine are growing like weeds under the lights and just begging to go outside. Hopefully after tonight I may be in the clear.
I planted mine directly outside, just two weeks ago. A few were volunteers from last year.
Happy Birthday Debra! Hope you have a wonderful day!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEBRA MAY IT BE AS SPECIAL AS YOU .
SUSIE
Wishing you happy birthday Debra.....where are you????
I do like his kindle fire but the keyboard has a different touch than my iphone so it takes some getting use to. Reason I like it is I can sit easily in front of the tv or bed and use it, laptop is a little bulky and iphone is smaller.....ipad I am sure would be great but I have my own personal thoughts on apple gadgets. I have an iphone because the company I work for wants access to me 24 hours a day 7 days a week, might as well put a chip in my head...rofl. Course any kind of tablet would be the best option, almost all the power of the computer, with a camera, with all the great things of a kindle except the price...rofl. Which is why I got him a kindle for our anniversary...rofl.
You would of done fine sitting up the router, the instructions in the box any more are so good any more. My younger sister bought a router and she knew she could call me but didn't have to and she is not computer skilled at all. Getting better tho, she is a big gamer on the farm thing in facebook...rofl.
Happ, I have an Ipad,, it was a gift. I love it and the price was great. Only down side is no way to down load movies to watch..sigh
4 days to moving and I am very excited!!
We are converting a 14 x 40 ft barn into a small house for Ralph and I. Picture is of it below. Looks small but it has lots of room. And 2 lofts for the grandkids to make their own personal areas in!!
I scored everything I need for the bathroom from Craigslist and it was all FREE!!!! I will get pictures as we build.
Kris, love that new home! And great score on the free stuff!
Kris my sister found plans on the Internet for turning those into great homes with min. upkeep and cost .
I have done most of the floor plan,, just need a 100 amp interior breaker box and the breakers to go in it,,sigh... they are not so cheap.. Looking on Craigslist and will be going to the Renovation Station for Habitat for Humanity to see if I can find anything there at the end of the month.
We have found great stuff at the habitat for humanity. I am in hopes one day of getting windows from there to do cold frames. After a few hundred other projects are done....rofl. Around KC we have a group www.reuseitnetwork.org people post things that are still good but they don't want anymore and you can tell them you want them and you get them for free or they will post they are sitting them on the curb at this location and first come first serve. I picked up about 10 really nice flower pots that way, someone was moving and just didn't want to mess with them. I have a friend who is always finding great stuff that way.
Breakers and those panels along with the wire are so expensive!
Linda Kay do you all have a hot rod? We use to have a 32 chevy but sadly DH sold it, then he rebuilt a 1962 shortbed pickup truck a ford and painted it black. The interior is not done, we found seats they are a casket dark red velour...rofl. I need to do something with them, like recover them but all in good time. We go to the meets around here, there is one really big one, can't remember the name but it is national meet and people from all over come to it. I bet the one is Austin will be huge!
Internet wireless router is really easy to set up... I have set mine up and my parents... recently had to buy a new DSL modem because mine died and the only one in the store was a combined modem and router so I even have a spare now... actually have a spare at my parents also because the first one I bought for my parents was only connected for a few days before dad insisted I disconnect it. He thought it interfered with his golf game. I could not convince him it had nothing to do with his game. It took me a year before I was able to connect another and I had to bring in a differnt one to make him happy. LOL
I have a ROKU box attached to my TV that receives wifi signal from the router so I can watch things on my TV. I have a streaming netflix membership for $8 a month and can watch unlimited things on the TV from netflix. Lots of older movies and TV programs I never watched when they were on originally! LOVE it! I also watch Glenn Beck on the ROKU with a membership but there are lots of free programs and movie channels available too. I also love HULU plus on my tV through the ROKU... guess I love that tiny ROKU box and it is possible with the home wireless router.
I was at Walmart a few minutes ago and was heartbroken watching them throw out giant bins of dying plants. They have them shipped in by the truckloads ... watch them die and then throw them out all because of the drought. THEY DON'T WATER THEM AT ALL!!! Can you imagine that??? They say they are not allowed to water them because of the city rules against using water except one day a week for 2 hours! This is INSANE! I don't think these rules were intended to destroy a business! I am so angry I can hardly see straight. They need to close the garden dept instead of doing this....
I am excited to do the work. It will just take time and really having no internet will be good for me. I will be so bored I have to work on the house,,heehee
I can still go to huddle house or Mcdonalds 2 or 3 times a week to keep in touch with you all!! And I will find a way to get my beloved cable TV & internet back!!! lol Also I can go the laundry mat,, They have really good internet there...
I hate seeing them throw out plants,,,sigh
Oh hate to hear we won't have you around as much...elf.
Horrible about the plants never thought about what business did in drought areas.
I know it is exciting and hard to get everything all worked out and together when making big life changes.....like you are Kris.
We live pretty far out but we are able to get dsl barely....and some nights you have to wonder if it is working, plus expensive and we can't get cable or anything like that, cell phone coverage is well hit and miss at the best where I live....you see all this competition on the tv but only if you live in a city...
Working at work today, so had a few minutes down time or waiting time so am checking DG....
I have tried Debras number serveral times today, the circuits are busy and you can't get thru, I heard the name of the town she lives in on the news in conjunctions with the tornados, in Wichita. I haven't got to hear the news anymore today.....I am sure she is fine, but can't help worrying about her and the family.....
Praying Debra is OK, too? Hopefully it is just a power issue? Lots of damage from these storms in Kansas, OK, and Iowa!
Got back on DG hoping she had posted and everyone is ok.
I will try her tomorrow at the office....
Tammy, When I bought a router for just hubby and me several years ago, I thought it would be difficult to set up, but it pretty much ran the set-up disc by itself. And I learned how to password protect it later when neighbors mentioned having free WiFi access. Last month, my cat made a dive for his bed on my desk and he managed to dump my cup of coffee in Hubby's laptop that I was borrowing. Everything works except the "C" key. My PC was 10 years old and the guy I've used for years for repairs said the cost to fix it would supercede it's worth, so we gave it to a neighbor who collects scap metal. Hubby and I now have new laptops. He likes to sit in his recliner to surf the web. I'm still getting used to my mine sitting on top of my desk, and can't tell you how many times I've pulled out the tray where my keyboard used to be.
Me too, happ. I waited as long as I can tonight before turning in. What a helpless feeling.
I hope it's only a matter of circuits being down, Debra, and that you and your family are alright. I'm worried about you, girl.
gm all daddy still sleeping in as he didn't sleep all night so i have a few min's . i was watching the news last night & saw that a trailer park in witchita was hit & i thought i saw her post that her son was staying at the trailer park not sure if it is the same one or not the news did say no one was harmed for they had a shelter built underground so that was good to hear.
it maybe a few days before power get back on in parts out that way so we need to hope for the best.
we have had some really nice warm rains this weekend but they say a freeze in the morning so i have to get my tarps out tonight.
sun popping out everything looks so perkie & green. ya all have a great day
finally got thru to Debra, her and her family are fine! So glad to hear that..... No damage at her place from the tornados but apparently huge amounts of rain, so she is fighting water in the basement.....
Thanks for the update on Debra. Glad to hear she is OK.
SO GOOD TO HEAR THANK YOU FOR UP-DATE
Knowing our Debra, she'll find a Silver lining and use the excess water in her basement to water her indoor garden.
There are saying there were over 120 tornados Saturday, that is amazing!
Hello, all. sorry to worry everyone, our power and internet and phones were down, and our basement was very flooded. Good news is, I saved the water we shop vacc'd up ( a little brown but okay) we got over 5 50 gal tubs of water picked up, now I am trying to get the dampness left over in the wood and stuff to dry up to prevent mildew. Funny thing, there was supposed to be a surprise party for my 60th that tornado night, no one told me or breathed a word, but the next day Karin called me to tell me she was okay ( she is in wichita) and that the party was supposed to happen. I looked at Joe ( I was upset he kinda didn't celebrate my birthday) and he just grined and told me he really had to bite his tongue to keep from telling me. Boy, I felt bad I had complained to Karin and Paula that everyone else got a huge dang deal for their birthdays but not me, and called Joe a cheapscate LOL..
Hope Daddy is doing okay, Susie. Gosh I have to use my laptop cuz the dealership got the network and phones and stuff messed up from storms, so here I am for a few days from work..
Son's place missed the tornado by a half mile, and the damage in derby was across the highway from our part of town.. There is over 280 million worth of damage around these parts of Wichita.. looks like Joplin did last year in some parts, amazing, no one was killed or even injured, since the weathermen had it dead on and warned us all well in advance.
Have to admit I was worried about you, I knew you were fine, but felt better when I heard you voice! How did your plants weather outdoors? Boy the weather guys had that storm pin pointed thank goodness. I am like you and between Joplin getting hit so bad and the deaths and the weather people really forecasting it I think folks are taking this stuff more seriously.
I haven't dragged my plants out yet, "chicken", I just know Mom nature is tempting me and if I do she go "Got Cha" and I will be out at midnight in the cold and wind and rain bringing those puppies back in...rofl. .. ;)
I have a few iris just starting to bloom. I need to fertlize, will try to do that tonight, rain coming in Thursday and Friday so they say.
all my stuff except the big passion vines that are trying to be going out the basement window on the southend are out now, Joyce. My iris that I got in swap way back when are just now blooming. all my daffs and tulips and hiyacynths are about done, the lilacs are done ( except the white one is about too) and my roses are going nuts. My bignonia caprella is in full bloom mixed up with john clayton lonicera and dropmore scarlet so it is a pretty sight by the fence corner out back. I was surprised to see that bignonia blooming, thought it was dead, it wintered over.
Bonnie said she has not taken her plants out yet either.. she said it was getting down to 35 one night this week, don't know if that happened yet.
They are predicting 36 for the city here I think Thursday night so it will be colder at my house......
So glad your flowers didn't get damaged in all the storms, we had winds so strong a few days ago it blew most of the petals off the tulips....
Funny my lilac is budding out just now and gettinng ready to pop. Did notice this morning my beautiful stand of poppies are blooming, my Mom planted those and it was like she was waving to me this morning as I was backing out the driveway.
My redish purple tree peony is done blooming, my white is in full bloom, iris are just starting and the roses have buds but no blooms yet, peonies are growing, might have buds can't remember...rofl.. OMG the dandivillians are in full bloom with a million seed heads...ugh!
I am sure ready to get stuff out and get it ready for the wind and the sun.
Sure would like to see Bonnie, she should let me go shopping at her garden center, I just know she has some beautiful stuff.
Glad to hear from you Debra. Scary stuff out there. I am thankful all of our friends have reported in.
Everyone will be glad to know that I finally bought a new keyboard for this netbook - doubt I'll have to post it anywhere else - it's been frustrating, but the beauty of it all was that I felt no urgency to have it fixed. Heck, my cell phone has been on the fritz for a couple of months (!!!!) and I'm only just now thinking I ought to buy a new one. The only REAL reason I had one in the beginning was to appease my mother who worried about me driving without one. Then of course carried it so she could reach me anywhere any time. Now she's gone so I only have a Tracfone and used it mostly for texting. I can do that for free too thru the computer, so you see . . ...
People who call me on the phone here at the house always leave some kind of message or sideways comment later to the effect of "this is why I never call because you don't answer anyway!" Same thing - I am in the garden, on the other side of the house. We have one phone. Sure it's cordless but why carry the thing all day?
O well.
Weather's been cool and wet these last couple of days. I have "enjoyed" some time inside cleaning up. I am caught up on all my seed and plant trades - if I owe anyone anything please give me a gentle reminder.
Loveya!
A.
Debra, glad to hear your OK too! We all worry about each other when you don't post for a bit! Glad the storm missed you, but it sure did a lot of damage!
It was great hearing your voice today, Manda, and being able to chat a while. What a pain though using your new netbook keyboard,
Look forward to everyone cheking in and hearing what you've been up to, especially you, Debra.
omg those are beautiful pics ya all.
My Mom had mini roses outside her apartment. We bought them for Mom's day and the such and she planted them and they did great.
Love those mini roses too! I had some for about 3 years, but last years heat killed them. I am looking for more!
Good Morning checking in before I head out to work.. got my computor back so now no lap top at work..
Fruity, the moonlight bud stem that broke off ( there were two stalks) has bloomed, bless its heart, i had it in a shot glass..
Debra, You ought to save that Rose bud shot and enter it in the DG Contest this Fall. When I enlarged the view, it literally took my breath away.
You mentioned having to dig deep for the mini Rose roots, Manda, and still had a way to go. It's so prety and hope you're able to root a piece for Max's Garden.
First pic is my small part-shade garden followed by a few Columbines growing there that are blooming now. Remember the Yellow one, Manda? Did yours make it? I still believe it's a native and has self sowed.
If any of you want Columbine seeds, I'll be glad to save them for you. The Red & Yellow one in the second pic and the Burgundy one in the last pic are from the 'Winkiy Series" I bought three years ago. They're compact plants and dwaft types only 12" or so tall.
