Due to last years severe drought in the Houston Texas area, my grass in my front yard has died off. I have almost NO grass left except on the sides of the house. I also have a large live oak tree in the middle of the front yard which provides a LOT of shade and almost no sun, and grass is hard to grow around it. I would like to replace the lost grass, but I dont have any idea what kind or whether to use squares of grass or grass seed. I need help! Please give me some advice on what I need to do to make my lawn look better. Thanks in advance.

You might also explore non-grass groundcovers. Even without drought, grass always is going to have a hard time surviving in the shade of a tree like that.
