Planting daffodils (or other spring bulbs) in the lawn

East Merrimack, NH

We are going to be putting in a new lawn this fall and wanted to put some spring bulbs before the grass seed goes on. Any recommendations as to what bulbs to plant? I was thinking daffodils but did not know if there were better options out there. We have lots of deer in our area which is what made me think of daffodils.

My zone is 5b (Merrimack, NH)

Thanks in advance

Crocus lawns look great

Siberian Squill also look really good

I love the look while blooming, but remember that the leaves need to be left alone to die off. While they are doing that your lawn is starting to green up and you can 't cut the grass very easily. I ended up moving mine to the edge of the lawn/ woods.

I agree with JulieQ in that some bulbs like daffodils will needs to have their leaves die off naturally or they may not bloom again. We also planted them in the lawn but have since moved them.
Good spring blooming bulbs that you WILL NOT have a problem with are crocus' and snowdrops. Both of these plants are usually finished with their growing season by the time you are ready to mow.
