Well, that's the problem with any natural mineral resource. The Bakken formation of oil shale is a big blob under northwest ND, northeast MT and southern Saskatchewan. I've been to the Badlands once. Some of the residents are suddenly getting nice chunks of change for mineral rights on otherwise low value property.
I don't like that our Appalachian mountains are cut off, ground up and burned (coal) either. In theory.
