More wonderful news. Now the FHA is bankrupt and will probably need to be bailed out. It never ends.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

military should be paid before the bureaucrats

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That's inexcusable.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

and who do I call about that??? his wife has been trying with the base commander and the battalion whatevers, and no luck so far

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

She should take it to her local TV station news. This should not be a secret!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

jen i do not think you call anyone - it is up to him and the wife

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Call the commander in chief.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Not really to call to solve the problem but get some awareness out there that our troops aren't getting paid

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

How can they just Not Pay the military? Inexcusable, I agree.

I wish the FDA backed down too. We now vaccinate widely against diptheria which they named as previous infectious disease problems, and who ever gets typhoid around here?. Does Land oLakes own somebody?

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Terrible Jen. I would be pissed if I was in his shoes.

Latest book acquisitions include a signed Frost and a Jules Verne novel called Dick Sands, or The Boy Captain.

What sites do you use to look for your treasures?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No sites. All from my trusted book dealer friend.

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

Victor, this isn't quite the same thing but when you mentioned The Tempest illustrations it made me think of my collection of Shakespeare cards. These were included in Typhoo Tea purchases back in 1937. As far as I know, I'm the only one that has had this collection of cards professionally graded. Here's a link with pictures of each of the 25 cards if you are interested:

Good to have a trusted friend that keeps his eye out for things you would like.

Interesting, sox. I will ask my friend if he is familiar with them.

Yes, Jan. I would not be into it without someone to trust. Would like to get into sports and movie stuff too, but you have to know someone. So easy to get ripped off.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

That's why I'm patiently waiting on my friend's appraisal of some things from my mom before I do anything with them. But, I sure would like to get back into our bedroom.

Here is one of those Tempest illustrations.

got our taxes done today - getting a large return - i prefer getting a return - the small amount in each paycheck would typically be wasted on something - this will go right into the yard in mean market

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, and it will only get worse. ^_^

I love book collections in general, and Victor's Tempest illustrations must be lovely to behold.

I've been searching for a copy of Frost's You Come Too, a poetry collection. It's been missing from my shelf for about ten years. Frost personally dedicated it to my mother when she studied with him at the Breadloaf writers' conferences. I wonder if it had much actual value. It had lots of sentimental value! i still have his daughter Leslie's book though.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - cool. I can ask my friend to look for it if you like.

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Well, I'm not sure I'd pay a lot since it isn't the one dedicated to my mother. If you just happen to be talking to your friend, you might ask about my buying one.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

What happened to yours??

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Wish I knew. I suspect a disgruntled au pair, since I might have told her it was a prized possession of my mom's. Or some family member was careless with it. Periodically, I take inventory, always hoping it'll show up.

He felt my mother needed a longer and fancier first name, so he took poetic license and gave her his own name for her because he thought it was better, so the inscription isn't even to her real name.

What a shame to have it lost.

I have some very old books of DH's dad but I doubt they have any value. Poor condition.

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

We're full of news.

DH works for a company that just downsized AGAIN. There were a few hundred employees a few years ago, when the governor made a big deal about how Massachusetts was attracting manufacturing, etc etc. Fortunately, DH survived the cut again today, but there are less than 20 people left. We're lucky that he knows hardware and software, and other people don't use the same programming language. It's scary to be this close to retirement and see so much upheaval.

And DS was just awarded a $10,000 per year scholarship to Wentworth Institute in mechanical engineering! It may be his safety school, but now we know he won't just be going to the local junior college. He's not enthused, but we think it could end up as his best offer. No track or orchestra though.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow, guess the theme is count your blessings?

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Hit the nail on the head Victor!

Busy day for the 'Rosemary' house

How we liking that DOW near 13 000?. Helps lessen the pain of hearing talk about Greece all day.
The same news mentioned that about half of Americans have more debt than they have in savings. That seems shocking, although that would include people with promising careers who are just buying their first home.
