I have a calamansi citrus tree in a container that was gifted to us by a local organization. It was moved this past season from a cooler, cloudier climate to a warmer sunnier locale. We are in zone 10B now. It flowered well, but once the fruits set they remained very small and under developed. It's growth may have been stunted for any number of possible reasons (stress from being moved, transplanted and mild case of leaf miners)
My question is should just pick off all the tiny, under developed fruit or prune back to the leaf without leaving a stub or other?
Thank you in advance.
Calamansi (Citrus plant) w/ Under-developed fruits
JalbertoPena4,
I am no expert but it occurs to me that picking the small fruit might encourage new growth of fresh fruit. Also, I do not know how long it has been since you moved the tree but a dose of Vit B and fish emulsion may help bring in new life.
My two cents!
Awesome, thanks. That's what I thought, though it helps to hear someone else say it, so thanks again. I think giving it a more balanced fertilizer this go round will help as well. Last year I used one from E.B. Stone that was much higher in Nitrogen (7-3-3).
JalbertoPena4,
That sounds good. Keep us updated! I remember some post about how the fruit from a tree was not sweet. Turns out that under fertilized trees do not put out sweet fruit and some trees not at all. Good luck!
