What's incredible is that she made so many millions and was almost broke at the end. How much coke can you snort?
COFFEE BREAK #74
I dont think there is one iotta of similarity between someone in uniform who selflessly works for the public good and someone who sang for an extreemly very good living and couldnt handle life.
Absolutely. Then again, they also fly half staff when a politician dies, no matter how useless he was.

that is SO true!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, I really LOVE our governor but to pull this stunt, UGH
He's obviously pandering.
Wow - just noticed a bunch of hellebore blooms! Have to get some pics. Earliest I can remember.

Wet out there now!
Wow - what planet are these people on?!!

Probably hoping for 10%, & are using shock methods...then again, you couldn't pay me enough to teach in a city HS....terrible news on that bus crash...sounds like it was the bus driver's fault, glad I drove my son every day....there was a photo in our paper of the young woman who was shot....just a beautiful person.....I have a budded hellebore, should check again for blooms....
City of Chicago, and state of IL, are dead broke. IL raised taxes almost 70% and did not shrink their deficit at all.
Sounds like CT...
More creepy news about Google. They were tracking online activity by iPhone users. It never ends. And they get away with all of this, just like FB, because they are politically favored.
I am steamed at my supervisor at school. He wrote me that he had received a complaint from a student in my class that I was penalizing the students who came to class ON TIME because I gave a quiz every night that is due at the beginning of class - all this is true. I put the quiz out when I get into the classroom to set up the computer. If you come to class early, you get the quiz before class starts, if you get to class on time, you get the quiz, if you get to class less than five minutes late - you get the quiz. At five minutes after class starts I collect the quizes. I give the first 5 minutes of class to answer 5 multiple (3 choices) choice questions - sometimes I use a picture that needs to be identified! It is always the very basic information from the previous class. I have to stop putting out the quiz early per my supervisor. Anyone agree with my supervisor and why?
do not know what to say, you both have a point.
Can all the students get to your class early? another class before yours?
Should motivate them to get in early.....I had a professor who would lock the door at the exact time class would start......if you weren't in, he would NOT open the door!
The whole point is that it is a 5 minute test. If you come early - you should get rewarded because you are putting in extra effort. No one is penalized for coming on time - they have the entire 5 minutes! I have been doing this for about 5 years.
If I tried complaining to my boss about someone else that I work with "not being fair" he would (and has) tell me that he has worked with that person/department for years and they have always been helpful and then the "teamwork" section of my performance review would be lowered. That is real life.
Ridiculous, if it's a five minute quiz and they come early they should be rewarded those extra 5 mins.
Does he want you to give a 5 minute quiz at the end of class for those who are late??? guess that would be fair(insert sarcasm font here)
Sounds like a government beaurocracy type of decision.
Too many easy jokes relating to the guy who tried to blow up Congress today. ;)
On a totally different note, David and Lindseys house was approved through both lawyers today! And it's 1.5 miles from me!
OH how !!! Congrats to them and you. :)
Great! Congrats to them!
Thanks!
I was nervous all week after 2 previous verbally accepted offers fell through on them. I went and saw the house this afternoon. It needs a little work, but has a lot of nice points too.
Woohoo!!!!
Most important - garden???
There are daffodils or something popping up, back yard has lots of trees and backs up to a grade school, Lyn says she needs low maintenance so I told her we could do shrubs. There is a lot of what I think is pachysandra, but hopefully we can work with that. Possibilities, look forward to seeing what is there.
& you don't have to worry about the school bus?
Not sure what you mean about the bus. It will be a little while before they have school aged kids.
Great news, Debi...happy that they are close!
Mrs. Lidwell, thanks for the prayers for my friend's niece. I will go and post a prayer request in that forum. Such an awful thing to happen.
Memory, I have to agree with Victor, sounds like government bureaucracy in your school. Nuts!
Debi, congrats to them! Pachysandra is pretty low maintenance, so that's a good thing. Hostas are always good, as well as vinca and sweet woodruff.

Karen
What great news Debi .The property sounds low maintenance already.
Karen, I always knew gardening was cheap therapy! Well, maybe not so cheap!
Deb - congrats on the house! In this market, I bet they got a great deal.
Jen - I was just thinking the same thing - quiz last 5 of the class. I am working through the whole thing in my head and will find a way to reward those who put in extra effort - in spite of my supervisor. The student who complained is not doing well in the class - or they wouldn't have complained. The fact is with multiple choice questions where I try to keep the choices very simple - five hours wouldn't be enough time to get the answers right because they just don't study.
Karen - thanks so much for posting that article.

I can totally believe this! In fact, I've struggled with depression and PTSD and anxiety for several years, but didn't start messing around in a garden or indoor potting until about 3 years ago, and I can honestly say it has greatly helped my depression and anxiety (no longer taking any meds, and, while, sometimes my depression/anxiety creeps up and smacks me lol... a few hours in the garden tends to help soothe and comfort me back to a "better place" so to speak). I don't know about all the chemical stuff they are saying is in the dirt that can act like prozac or other antidepressants, etc... but I can vouch for the fact that gardening has helped me cope with my depression/PTSD/anxiety issues much better than most pills I have tried using.
Now, if I could figure out things I could do indoors during the cold months of the year, I'll be set LOL! I've taken up reading, but it pales in comparison to how gardening makes me feel.... even when all my crops die LOL!
congrats to the kids debi!!
i have to say i WOULD NOT ever want to be 1.5 miles from my mother :)
Thanks everyone. I'm happy they want to be close!
that's great - on the flip side we are close to my in-laws which i am happy about.
