COFFEE BREAK #74

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Very sweet Celeste!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

I know who she takes after. She is my hero, too!!! Way to go. Somehow, I don't think her teen years will be too difficult with this headstart. I was almost in tears as I read this.

Cresson, PA(Zone 6a)

Hey all!

Thought I'd pop in for a few to say hey! It's been a hectic weekend and beginning of the week for my family. Seems everyone here got hit with a stomach virus thats going around. Luckily, I'm the last one to get it (just starting to get the symptoms), but everyone else is still sick with it... started thursday night and its just been non stop, one person after the other! OY! SO can't wait till the "sickness" season is over and done with! Had to call both my kids off school today, and hubby called off work. Not a good start to the week, but, it seems my daughter is slowly getting over it (though her appetite still isn't where it used to be).

Anyway, just wanted to say hi and letcha's know why I haven't really chatted here much in the last few days.

HEHE and since I see we're sharing family photos... I'll add mine LOL!

That is awesome Pixie! You should be very proud! It always warms my heart when I see young kids opening their heart and mind to children with disabilities! Those kids are true heroes!!!

Celeste loved your story, be proud Hunter is beautiful, on the outside too♥

MrsL hope you feel better, so far I've been spared that stomach bug...good looking family you have there!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, feel better, all!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

It's really awful we live in a world where we can't be kind and help out strangers for fear that it might not be what it seems and that we could get seriously hurt or killed.

What a great thing your GD did, Celeste. Awesome! That's really something to be proud of. And she's very pretty, too. Such a cute little girl.

Great looking family, MrsL. Hope everyone feels all better soon.

Rosemary, very interesting article about 'Louise's Sunbeam', and it sure is a pretty one. I'm a sucker for anything with chartreuse foliage. Might have to get one of those. Someday someone will develop daylilies with chartreuse foliage.

I'm really upset right now. The last few days I spent literally hours listing more daylilies in the DG Marketplace to add to the ones I already had listed there, which brought my total listings up to about 140. I had sent a d-mail to Terry in admin asking for help listing one of my new ads, as I was having trouble with it, though I figured it out before hearing back from her. Well, today she informed me that the Marketplace will be shut down in a few days. Terry said a d-mail went out back in Dec. to all members who had ads in the Marketplace. I never got one. She also mentioned she had put a note in the Marketplace forum. Well, to be honest, I didn't even know there was a Marketplace forum, and didn't even think to find out if there was, as I'm so busy keeping up with this forum, the daylilies one, and some threads in a couple others. Anyhow, right now I just feel like crying, screaming and throwing things all at the same time. I'm going to have to go over to the Lily Auction now and spend a lot more hours listing there. UUUUGGGHHH!!!!!!!!!

Karen

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

HUGS, Karen!!!!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks, Jan, I could use them right about now. I won't be able to do much about posting on the LA until the weekend now, as I'm working. I sure wish work didn't interfere with my daylilying, but you know how that goes. Gotta pay bills and have a little fun, too.

Oh Karen that stinks :(

Cresson, PA(Zone 6a)

Thanks all!

I think my daughter is finally back on the mend, gonna attempt sending her to school tomorrow and see how things go. Hubby still isn't feeling 100% better yet, but I think he's gonna attempt work tomorrow. My son though, I'm still debating keeping him home. He didn't get the vomitting with this bug, but he's definitely not wanting to eat much at all and he has had diarrhea for a few days. Hubby says he thinks its starting to get a little better, but we'll see in the morning. I thought the same thing last night, then when I woke him up for school this morning, he had an accident, and that's when I decided to keep him home. Good thing, cuz that wasn't the last accident he had. I'd imagine they will all be well enough to go back to school/work by tomorrow or Wednesday, just hoping that I can fight off the worst of this bug so I don't get sick lol. Last time we had this bug hit and I got the worst end of it... hubby had to take off work because I was too sick to stay up and do blood sugar checks and care for the kids. So, really fighting hard NOT to get sick. Think if I send the kids to school tomorrow, I'll be walking down to the store to pick up some OJ LOL! Might need that vitamin C LOL!

At the NYBG:

In celebration of Women’s History Month
Ladies of the Garden:
A Look at Inspiring Women in the Garden's History
March 15, 11 a.m.–2 p.m.
Meet at The Lillian and Amy Goldman Stone Mill
$50, includes lecture, Q & A and gourmet lunch

The Garden’s extensive and rich history includes numerous influential and creative women dedicated to the preservation and advancement of horticulture and the botanical sciences.

NYBG history enthusiast and staff member Wayne Cahilly will discuss women that were involved in the Garden’s early construction and vision. This includes one of our founding leaders Elizabeth Gertrude Knight Britton (above) who along with her husband, Nathaniel Lord Britton was prominent in botanical science during the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century.

Lynden Miller_1.jpgLynden B. Miller (left) designed the Jane Watson Irwin Perennial Garden and is a large supporter of horticulture in her own right. She will speak on her personal experiences and acquaintance with women that have helped bring the Garden to its current glory, including Beth Straus, a leader in revitalizing the Garden in the 1980s. Following the 45 minute lecture will be a short Q & A and a gourmet lunch provided by Abigail Kirsch.

Lovely card Victor and true video!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks, everyone. Bill, just typed everything up in DG, but the Marketplace is still open till March 15, so I have till then to hopefully make some sales. In the meantime I can copy and paste in the LA. I had a lot of listings with them last year, and they are still archived. I just need to repost them and upload pics again and just do a minor bit of editing. Shouldn't take as long listing all the new stuff in the LA, as it's all been done in DG. Maybe will take about half the time. Still, I dread having to put in a bunch more hours on those, and I have a lot more I still want to list. Oh, well. Stuff happens, as they say.

Awww, thanks for the card, Victor.

Happy V Day, everyone!

Karen

We received word today that Jeff's aunt died on Monday. She was just shy of celebrating her 106 th birthday. His cousin said that she had been failing for about a month. Her mind had gone years ago, but physically was well. She will be buried on Friday afternoon at Quantico next to her husband.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

That's too bad, Jan. Sorry to hear that. Very sad.

Victor, some people are just nuts.

Karen

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

My condolences Jan. 106 is a long time to live, honeslty don't know if I want to be around that long.

Received a letter last week from Nassau County (LI) traffic violations department. They claim that I had an outstanding summons from January of 1998! The license plate number did match my old plates, but there was no way it was legit. At that time the plates were on my wife's car and all she drove was the less than one mile to work from home. She would never drive to LI - especially in early January! Asked my cop BIL to check it out, but all he could tell me was that the plates were never surrendered. Not sure how that happened.

Today I called and they said they would look into it and probably resolve it. The letter threatened all kinds of stuff - credit score, tow, blah blah. The original $40 fine accrued $175 penalty over the years. It claimed it was he second notice but I never received the first. The woman told me it was for a '95 Cadillac, which, of course, I never had!

Our government in action.
