Yes, in 7th grade. Heehee!!!
Luke spent the night with us. He will be 6 in May. He was a lot of fun. In a group he can be demanding, because he wants to be in control of EVERYTHING!!! Funny how we all have different personalities. TWould be boring otherwise
COFFEE BREAK #74
go go go Tarsha!!!... drooling over the pies!!!
I want a whoopie pie!
Changing subjects before anyone of ourselves gets seriously hurt acting like a teenager - -
I went to this hooked rug show maybe three years ago - it was quite wonderful - and well worth the trip to Vermont.

Good thing I wasn't drinking any coffee when I read that, Cat.
Those rugs are awesome. Are you a hooker, too? I'd like to try that. Going to look it up now.
Oh good Lord...Jan delete that question to Yank before Victor and Bill get a hold of it. LOL
This message was edited Feb 11, 2012 10:21 AM
LOL! Yep, I could see how that question could be TOTALLY thrown out of context LMAO! Especially by some of our male friends HAHAHA!
^_^
Jan - just a wannabe. Only made two rugs and I have all the stuff including a ton of recycled wool from garments. It turns out that the part I like the best is the wool recycling and stripping (cutting the wool into strips).
I remember being roughly my son's age and my aunt teaching me how to do latch hook! I stopped doing it a few years later, thinking I was too old for it LOL! Boy does this kinda stuff bring back memories LOL! Maybe next time I'm at walmart or somewhere, I'll have to look for those kits again... would be something fun for my kids to do with me, I think LOL!
Go, TARSHA!!!!! Woa! I just did a cartwheel, too, and now I'm feeling it. LOL!
Love the whoopie pie. Yum! They're a fave of mine.
Jan, when I was a kid, I wanted to be in control of everything, too. I was very bossy. Found out when I got older that people didn't like that too much. Go figure. But actually, when I got older I was not bossy at all, as I became rather shy. I had been bossy with my siblings, as I was the oldest. I've often had a desire to control things in my life, and I developed a lot of anger issues and anxiety when things were out of my control. I've learned that the only person you can really control in your life is yourself, yet I still struggle with those issues to this day.
Wow, Memory, rug hooking. Never thought I would find that interesting, but I was amazed! Don't know if I would have the patience to do it myself, though when I was doing my ceramic vases with my elaborate designs, those were rather tedious themselves, and I had no problem sitting for hours working on them, so maybe rug hooking would be right up my alley. Um....maybe not. Would love to get back to doing those ceramic vases, though. Sometimes I really miss that. I do like the idea of the wool recycling. Great idea.
Karen
Hahaha, I thought about deleting, but decided to go ahead.
Good for you, Karen. I only did the cartwheel split in my head, cuz I KNEW I'd probably break myself.
The rug hooking actually looks very interesting. I've been making some doll clothes lately. I need to get organized with my stuff, so I can put my hands on a notion needed. Will be on the lookout for ribbons, buttons, etc.
My former student that is donating a drawing to a silent auction popped in with her little boy this morning. The molding she picked out for the frame, Jeff already had some made and stained, so he double-matted and framed the pic whle she waited. This way she doesn't have to drive over an hour again to pick it up. She was surprised and pleased with the result.
Wow...lucky Jeff is so talented...very hard to mat & frame! And it cost an arm & a leg to have it done at the art shop! Memory, those rugs are awesome....so much talent.....have been to Shelbourne Museum twice...loved the circus figures!
RD, I'm the lucky one. DH is a renaissance man. He can do just about anything.
Some of those rugs are huge. The detail on them is wonderful!
My dad and I used to hook rugs all the time, he had a gorgeous one of a water wheel and stream
LOL! Jan, I hope you didn't think that I actually did a cartwheel. It was all in my head, as well.
Karen
I never cheered, but I did gymnastics. :) Used to hook rug alot when the kids were babies, then I moved onto things they could do like making chocolates. ^_^
Wanted to share this....my niece's friend had an experience and is making others aware.....
Attention! Important!
Especially to the ladies we all care about...
A MESSAGE FROM THE OFFICE OF ATTORNEY GENERAL
STATE OF MICHIGAN :
SITUATION..
While driving on a rural end of the roadway on Thursday morning, I saw an infant car seat on the side of the road with a blanket draped over it.
For whatever reason, I did not stop, even though I had all kinds of thoughts running through my head. But when I got to my destination, I called the Canton PD and they were going to check it out. But, this is what the Police advised even before they went out there to check....
"There are several things to be aware of ... gangs and thieves are now plotting different ways to get a person (mostly women) to stop their vehicle and get out of the car.
"There is a gang initiation reported by the local Police Department where gangs are placing a car seat by the road...with a fake baby in it....waiting for a woman, of course, to stop and check on the abandoned baby.
"Note that the location of this car seat is usually beside a wooded or grassy (field) area and the person -- woman -- will be dragged into the woods, beaten and raped, and usually left for dead. If it's a man, they're usually beaten and robbed and maybe left for dead, too.
DO NOT STOP FOR ANY REASON!!! DIAL 9-1-1 AND REPORT WHAT YOU SAW, BUT DON 'T EVEN SLOW DOWN.
Oh yea, about the EGGS:
"IF YOU ARE DRIVING AT NIGHT AND EGGS ARE THROWN AT YOUR WINDSHIELD, DO NOT STOP TO CHECK YOUR CAR, DO NOT OPERATE THE WIPERS AND DO NOT SPRAY ANY WATER BECAUSE EGGS MIXED WITH WATER BECOME MILKY, AND BLOCK YOUR VISION UP TO 92.5%, AND YOU ARE THEN FORCED TO STOP BESIDE THE ROAD AND BECOME A VICTIM OF THESE CRIMINALS.
THIS IS A NEW TECHNIQUE USED BY GANGS, SO PLEASE INFORM YOUR FRIENDS AND RELATIVES.
THESE ARE DESPERATE TIMES AND THESE ARE UNSAVORY INDIVIDUALS WHO WILL TAKE DESPERATE MEASURES TO GET WHAT THEY WANT."
Please talk to your loved ones about this. This is a new tactic being used. Please be safe.
Get started NOW -- SEND THIS MESSAGE TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS AND LOVED ONES TO BE CAREFUL AND BE AWARE OF EVERYTHING AROUND THEM SO AS NOT TO BECOME THE VICTIM.
WARNING # 3:
Some knew about the red light on cars, but not Dialing 112.
It was about 1:00 p.m. in the afternoon, and Lauren was driving to visit a friend. An UNMARKED police car pulled up behind her and put his lights on. Lauren's parents have always told her to never pull over for an unmarked car on the side of the road, but rather to wait until they get to a gas station, etc.
Lauren had actually listened to her parents advice, and promptly called,112 on her cell phone to tell the police dispatcher that she would not pull over right away. She proceeded to tell the dispatcher that there was an unmarked police car with a flashing red light on his rooftop behind her. The dispatcher checked to see if there were police cars where she was andthere weren't, and he told her to keep driving, remain calm and that he had back up already on the way.
Ten minutes later 4 cop cars surrounded her and the unmarked car behind her. One policeman went to her side and the others surrounded the car behind. They pulled the guy from the car and tackled him to the ground. The man was a convicted rapist and wanted for other crimes.
I never knew about the 112 Cell Phone feature. I tried it on my AT&T phone & it said, "Dialing Emergency Number."
Especially for a woman alone in a car, you should not pull over for an unmarked car. Apparently police have to respect your right to keep going on to a safe place.
*Speaking to a service representative at Bell Mobility confirmed that 112 was a direct link to State trooper info. So, now it's your turn to let your friends know about "Dialing, 112"
You may want to send this to every Man, Woman & Youngster you know; it may well save a life.

Celeste just sent a lot of good information.
I did have an experience with an unmarked police car pulling me over. It was many years ago. I did not stop, but took the next exit, and then the police car pulled in front and blocked me. I finally opened my window a crack when I could see he was in uniform and he showed his badge. A different vehicle was harassing me on the road, so I had sped up to avoid hitting him. The speeding violation was screened in by the clerk magistrate, but the judge heard the case on the next round and dismissed it. It was a dangerous patch of road. Since then, there has been a famous murder of a young woman at the rest stop, so the rest stop has been closed and boarded.
Sometimes correct judgement isn't recognized right away, but it will be. Even a ticket isn't worth risking one's life.
Very good advice......had not heard the one about the eggs......
It circulated a year ago but thanks for the repost.
Meant to post this today.
Whitney Houston died 48 years old. very sad.
Those first 2 stories are false. The last is a mix of true, false and unconfirmed info. It is true that rapists and murderers will pass themselves off as police officers.
Eggs mixed with water won't block a driver's view. The wipers can easily clear away most of the mess.

Celeste, was one of those exact stories one that your niece's friend experienced? The one in Canton with the car seat has been circulating on via email since May 2010. The one about the eggs has been around since Nov. of 2009.
Karen
Karin is helping us all by sharing the snopes links. I hadn't checked till she posted. However, I do think the principle in the email warnings is correct. The details of some very bizzare crimes do not always get posted, and sometimes a victim of crime doesn't realize how they've set themselves up for trouble. I am aware of people having their cars stolen because they left them running at a daycare or convenience store, for example. It is also a good thing to be thinking of how an odd event could lead to victimization as long as we don't get overly fearful.
Yes, lots of emails are bogus, but the main idea of not stopping your car anymore is just good common sense.

Thought I'd share this story about Viburnum rafinesquianum 'Louise's Sunbeam'
This is a bit surprising. As bad as many parts of DC are, the mall is generally very, very safe.
http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/One-Dead-After-Shooting-On-National-Mall-139179149.html
No Karen, none were the exact story, they had someone dressed up like an old women and made it look like her grocery bags broke on the side of the road hoping someone would stop to help. What stopped my nieces friend from getting out is she noticed the old woman had alot of piercings and tattoos, she called 911 instead. It was not an old woman, it was an 17 year old girl whom they think was doing it for a gang initiation.
I think the message here is that these gangs/criminals will employ what ever it takes to get you to stop...DON'T STOP!!!
Happy Birthday, Abe!! Still think he and George deserve their own days, as opposed to 'Presidents' Day, which honors all presidents. Most of them were duds!

This is the site I meant to copy. The story about Louise's Sunbeam is midway down.
Love the color on Louise's Sunbeam.
rosemary i enjoyed both posts.
I agree with you, Victor
Sat. my Granddaughter Hunter played basketball...she plays for 2 different teams, her school and rec team.
She did an amazing thing for a girl on the rec team who is mentally challenged and wanted very much to make her 1st basket during a game. Hunter told her to get under the basket and she would dribble down, pass it to her and she could make the shot. The young lady missed the pass, Hunter was not fazed. She set her up under the basket again, dribbled down the court, stopped in front of the young lady and handed the ball to her. She made the shot! ^_^
Not one ref blew their whistle for a foul and the crowd went wild!! I have never been more proud as a Mother/Grandmother as I was on Sat. Feb. 11th, 2012.
This is what my oldest daughter Nichole (Hunter's Mother) wrote on her facebook page that day:
"Nichole Paradis Hoague
To my beautiful talented daughter, Hunter Hoague, you played well in the playoff game today but shinned twice as bright in the rec game when you dribbled under the basket directly next to a team mate and handed her the ball, so that she could make her very first basket. Today, you are my HERO!
They are BOTH my HERO'S. ^_^
