Hi friends I have the stem cuttings of Oregano i.e. Origanum Vulgare. Here it is spring in India and I want to root them and grow them in rectangular container with soil depth of about 3 inches because I've heard somewhere that it has shallow roots and can do well as a ground cover spreading horizontally using runners.
Please tell me if 3 inches of depth is ok for accommodating the roots, the container dimensions are like this 35"x20"x3"(LengthxWidthXHeight). Can my oregano successfully grow?
Oregano doubts please clarify
Searching through a few sites, I discovered that Origanum vulgare is considered a Medium depth plant and requires a planting depth of 12 to 14 inches. It has fine fibrous roots, and is easy to transplant, but requires that depth to support the plant.
