Hi friends here in India there is a flower called Shankhapushpi which is generally Clitoria ternatea (or Butterfly pea in English) as per my knowledge, whereas Convolvulus pluricaulis (a variety of morning glory) is called Vishnukranthi.
But when I am searching google for Convolvulus pluricaulis, it is giving pictures of both the above flowers. Please confirm if both are same or is it that the white flower variety of Clitoria is convolvulus.I already know that Clitoria is a legume, I wonder the case with Convolvulus?
Convolvulus pluricaulis vs Clitoria ternatea Confusion
Clitorea and Convolvulus are completely different plants, in completely different plant families. Common names in most of the world are not standardized and are frequently used to refer to multiple different unrelated plants, so if you're searching on it by common name that is probably why you're finding different things.
Or even if you're searching by Latin name, when you Google for images you need to use caution when looking at the results...if some random person who knows nothing about plant identification has Clitorea but labels it as Convolvulus in their Flickr album, website, blog, on a forum/discussion group, etc it'll show up in a Google search for Convolvulus even though that's completely wrong. So always look at what website it is that the picture came from. I typically start by looking things up here in Plant Files before googling...PF isn't 100% perfect either, but at least there is some oversight and a mechanism for removing incorrectly identified pictures so it can improve your chances of getting the right picture.
yes ecrane this is a site with experts like you and is more reliable.
