Hi. I have a few more odd-ball questions..
Are there any plants that can't handle the gritty mix? Wondering about my Boston fern ..
What about starting seeds in it?
What do I do with my turface fines? Do people use them?
Can I use my larger left-over pine park to dress the tops of the pots, or will that cause problems?
Thanks again..

Bad plants for gritty mix?
I've never found a plant that doesn't like the gritty mix, but I found ONE that likes the 5:1:1 mix better. Your fern will do fine, but you should be sure to bare root when you move it to the gritty mix.
Seeds do fine in the gritty mix. Spread them on top and cover lightly with some of those Turface fines you're asking about. Other uses for the fines include hypertufa projects in place of sand, add them to raised beds, mix 1 part into the 5:1:1 (5:1:1:1) mix to increase water retention if you think you need it, put it in a sand bag & use for traction sand in icy conditions .....
By all means, top dress with the large bark if you want. Good idea. ;-)

Cool Al, Thanks again for the info!
