decontaminating a large planter infected with tomato blight

Wellborn, FL

I've removed and discarded all the soil - now what?
Thanks

I would recommend cleaning the planter thoroughly to get all the dirt off, then disinfect it with bleach before using it again.

Ditto, I agree with Ecrane, I sterilize all my planters and pots this way every year when I re-pot or empty them, I have to place a lot of my plants inside a greenhouse for protection in winter and cant allow any bugs, diseases etc to get hold so I try to maintain a regime for cleanliness BUT, there is always some little bug--- that will defy you ha, ha, ha.
Good Luck. WeeNel.

I would have left the dirt and added Actinovate--wouldn't hurt even to the new soil. Great stuff!

In addition to making sure you sterilize the container (scrubbing it with a bleach solution works!), make sure to use sterile potting mix when you set seedlings out in pots. A sterile mix eliminates soil-borne fungi like blight. Check this page for help: http://www.tomatodirt.com/potting-mix-for-growing-tomatoes-in-pots.html. Good luck!
