Oh Deb, im so sorry! Was it here in Maine?
A sign would be a great idea, maybe with the # of deaths in the last 10 years. I live in area where we are surrounded by lakes.
Coffee Break #72
Thanks Celeste, it was in the Adirondaks, I didn't know him. Another BIL was in an ATV accident a couple years ago, and has since given up riding. It's hard getting bad news after such a nice night at the wedding.
How about a man going down with an EXCAVATOR on Mascoma Lake in NH.....what was he thinking????
sorry about your BIL cousin deb
three guys went into a lake on the mass/conn border saturday - one died after being pulled out
Those half pipe accidents seem to be happening more ofter also. Another dangerous sport.
Must be the time of year to do really stupid things.

Should have had a Chinese dinner today!
True!
The Chinese restaurants will be MOBBED
Year of the Dragon is supposed to be the luckiest one. Many will try to have babies this year. (Not enough Chinese yet!! ^_^)
lol
Showoff! ^_^ Very nice.
Not showing off, if i was I'd keep going. :) Have 2 cactus in bloom, a hibiscus and that blue thunbergia.
Can we see the blue thunbergia, please?
so sorry to hear that Debi.. just terrible
nice geranium Celeste!
Congrats on your new DIL, Debi! Sorry about your BIL's cousin. What a shame to end his life at 56. Could have had a lot more good years left in him.
Woah! An excavator going down in a lake????? Yeah, what was he thinking? Nuts!
Pretty blooms, Celeste!
Karen
My best wishes for your son and new wife Debi.
I thought this would amuse some of you. This is glass.

Neat Jo!
Chihuly wears an eye patch due to a motorcycle accident many years ago, and so at least one step of the glass-blowing process has to be handled by an assistant, since he lacks the depth perception most of us have.
(Kids, that's an example of a "run-on sentence"; teachers don't like 'em!)

Boston you are right. I dont think he does much of his own hands on. He is a great concept man and the engineering needed to create and install those pieces just boggles my mind.
There is a Chihuly underwater display of multiple pieces in Las Vegas; it was on TV for just a few seconds, the pieces looked like open, round flowers.
Lighting is crucial.
His website has a list of installations and locations the sidewalk is on there. We have a chandelier in the new Eastman School of Music concert hall.Kodak remodeled it and now its Kodak theater.Bad idea I think to change the name.
Most episodes of "Frasier" show a subtle piece of Chuhuly in the living room; it's immediately to the right of the fireplace, where no one in real life would put it, since it is a heavily traveled corner.
"Daphne" moves the piece away when "Niles" wants to demonstrate his kickboxing prowess...or lack thereof.
I remember it.I also thought the same thing and expected a crash at any time.
That open flared bowl is being knocked off now.
I have seen some in places that just couldnt afford them,or Chuhulie studios makes a mass produced lower priced piece for retail.
I wouldn't be surprised.
I wonder how many of his large public installations have paid in full slips on Dales desk?
The publicity factor of spreading his name probably reduces the price, like those signs on lawns "Renovations by Smith Bros." knocks $50. off the job price.
I don't know enough about the business, but the mega-millionaires in private residences probably pay full price for bragging rights to the showpiece, and public institutions pay less...I'm just guessing.
Neat Jo, I googled for more examples, and did see his work in Vegas.
Boston area.I never thought of it that way.
I do know how hard it is to promote yourself as a professional artist so you can command the prices he gets. Millionaires dont part with their coin easily and you are right Bragging rights are in the mix.
I saw him speak at Rochester Institute of Technology ages ago before he had the big studios he has now.
Have always admired his creativity......
He definatly has an out of the box point of view. I love his glass in landscapes and gardens transforming them into magical places.
very fun! I have lots of pics of the Chuhuly installation at the Bronx Botanical Gardens - I will post them. I have one shot that I use as a screen saver.
Someone on another site had photos from the Phipps Conservatory. Just splendid at holiday time.
Well - the files on your hard drive might not be protected under the Fifth Amendment according to a Federal rulling recently. A person charge with a mortgage scan has been ordered to turn over the password to their hard drive to the authorities in Colorado.
U.S. Attorney's Office said in court documents that if Fricosu wasn't ordered to unlock her computer, it would result in a "concession to her and potential criminals (be it in child exploitation, national security, terrorism, financial crimes or drug trafficking cases) that encrypting all inculpatory digital evidence will serve to defeat the efforts of law enforcement officers to obtain such evidence through judicially authorized search warrants, and thus make their prosecution impossible.” http://technolog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/01/23/10219384-judge-orders-woman-to-give-up-password-to-hard-drive
Well, she is already charged with a crime, so it's not like she was chosen randomly. This one is a gray area.
It's the NYBG, Cat, not Bronx Bot Garden!
I am not a big fan of Chihuly. Looks like a ripoff of 60's stuff.
Sleazy company number one strikes again.
