Teddy - Possibly.
Daily piccies vol 427
Wow everyone...lovely shots on this thread.
Nanny...I still have never seen a Brown Creeper!! Lucky you!
Duc...that is a gorgeous shot of the Robin and berry...so colorful!
Teddy - Possibly.
Teddy, really all you can do is try. Have you ever see one on this tree? Is there a clear access to it? The pileated needs room to fly in and out. They typically land high in my tree and move down to the feeder and then go back up the tree to take off. I am not really familiar with cottonwood trees at all.
So like pelle said....Possibly.
Congrats Ladi_Burd on the awesome lifers of the year. Sandhill Cranes still haven't migrated South this late in winter? Hoping for a safe journey for them.
yes, we have seen one on the tree, it has room for them to fly in and land and scoot down the tree and back up and take off. My hubby went out the door one night and there he was on the tree, scared my hubby half to death;) Now my hubby knows how big they are, he saw one close up!
Congratulations Ladi_Burd! The Northern Pintail is my favorite duck, they are so handsome.
I made a treat for the birds, I took one of the pine cones, smeared it with crunchy peanut butter and then rolled it in sunflower seeds, I have it hanging on the upside down feeder, hopefully it will attract something interesting. I was going to put it on the tree or the lattice but the squirrels could reach it there, so I put it where the squirrels can't reach anymore.
Duc, love the waxwings and that Red-tail
Nanny, congrats on the double Creepers! Outstanding!
Ladi_Burd -- nice ducks. Lately, I've only taken really bad pics of ducks, so enjoying yours!
Burn, nice tributes to the underappreciated birds.
Resin, love the swans. There was and may still be a Tundra Swan not too far from here. I'm regretting that I haven't gone to see it.
Granny, lovely shots! Those titmice? titmouses? are hard to get.
Everyone, love 'em!
Here is a Burrowing Owl that I saw on Saturday.
Love all the raptors.
Duc, Great shots! Love the sweet Goldfinch and Junco!
Elphaba. Congrats on the Lifer! I absolutely love the Burrowing Owl and the White-tailed Hawk is so handsome!
Congrats Elpha on your "Lifer" also!
Love all the great pics everyone!
Hey comgrats on the Lifer Elphaba...all your other shots are great too!! Love that little owl!
Wonderful shots all. Duc, love the Waxwings. Elphaba, that little owl is great. Owls are one of my favorites.
Great shots of some great bird's all on this and the last thread! Resin thanks for starting the newest thread! Beautiful Shot of the Bewick's Swan's!
Well haven't been here in a couple week's but Ladi_burd and I have been doing some heavy birding lately and we gotten off to a great start in 2012.
My first lifer of the year were a pair of Sandhill Crane's that flew by...weve had a pretty mild winter thus far...maybe they will winter here, but we have a ways to go before winter is over in Ohio. lol
A few shots to share. A Common Merganser
lastly for now a closer encounter with a Snowy Owl which was located by some birding friends. Ladi_Burd and I had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with Kenn and Kimberly Kaufman and spent some time enjoying the Snowy together while it sat on the roof of a barn in Port Clinton, Ohio.
Have a great week all!
Great series Burd, how wonderful that you and Ladi_burd shared some terrific outing together. The Snowy Owl is fantastic, right down to the Gull, I've never knew its winter plumage is quite beautiful. And never thought they have that "crest" look. All the water fowls are very interesting too. Elphy, lots of raptors you've got. That's too funny the Burrowing Owl was giving you "the eye". lol Duc, love all your birds that enjoy the bounty of berries this time of year. But I especially like those Cedar Waxwings, I have only saw them passing by here a few times, but none whatsoever last year. Hoping this year I'll see some during migration season.
I tried the pine cone treat, and it worked, a squirrel chewed the pine cone off the wire tie that I had around it and took off with it! I don't think it is going to work here, too many squirrels! I did not roll it in bird seed, I rolled in sunflower seeds, that might have done it, might try it some other time not sure though. Wish me luck, my application is in the mail for a full time job where I am working as a temp. and I hope I get it. It would eliminate a lot of problems. I have a piece of advice for anyone who has a job keep it! Even if it is not your dream job, keep it, it is hard to find a job that you love, but I do, it is not hard and there is no heavy lifting. And I get along with everyone I work with and the team leader is a fun guy too.
