Im wondering how will Coleus do in zone 8a? Will they seed them selves and come back each year? Thanks!
Do Coleus Seed them selves?
Coleus will die will any frost, they are an annual that does not spread by seed, you can treat them as houseplants or take cuttings to plant the following year
coleus is definitely not something you want to plant for reseeding. unless you are able to grow them in spring where you are and leave some flowerstalks on to set seed - maybe some 2nd generation plants will grow before your first frost.
Thanks for the info. Coleus are so beautiful.. I had done some searches on them and read mixed info on if they reseed them selves or not... I was hoping they did...
Even if you did get them to reseed (there are warmer zones where they'll survive the winter, so they might reseed there), they most likely wouldn't come true from seed so if you're in love with the ones with all the pretty leaf colors you might lose that in the 2nd generation anyway.
Yea, this may be a plant i will keep in a few pots instead of a border garden. Thanks again for the information on them.
