Coffee Break #70 It's 2012!!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

last year i got a blueray player for x-mass - then learned our receiver did not output more than 480 - this year i upgraded the receiver and yesterday "attempted" to install it - should have been easy, remove the numerous component video cables and replace with three HDMI cables - after six hours i gave up, scheduled a cable visit and got the 800# for support ready to help with speaker set up with Onkyo.

Today cable guy comes first thing and replaces cable box because of bad HDMI port - 5 minutes system is up and running (could not help to think about the six hours of looking through manuals i spent)

Call Onkyo and leave message and they call you back when you are next in Que - they call back and i spend 30 minutes on the phone and have everything set up - what a difference!

Will be calling back this afternoon to get more assistance with pre-setting radio stations - there is a memory button on the remote they refer to that does not seem to exist. I am sure a button has dual functions and after 40 minutes of hunt and peck i give.

Have to say the support from Onkyo has been great and very happy with the receiver and high def pic quality - blueray here we come! they also have numerous audio choices available depending on what you are watching of listening too that are easy to use and what a difference choosing the right one makes

so frustrating dealing with stuff beyond our knowledge with electronics.. I hear Michele everyday with the android phone her hubby bought her for christmas.. keeps hanging up on people.. can't figure out how to text.. feel bad for her some days.. and for something I find so easy .. when I show her how to do things she can't believe we can do all these things without getting help.. I think her frustration gets the best of her .. but she did love the coupon apps I told her to download!!

good for you. Kaqren. I am green with envy.

I just got a Blu-Ray player too. Haven't set it up yet. My receiver is new and has all the inputs/outputs for 1080.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Sounds like too much work to me to watch tv

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

it is all up and running now - blu-ray i had last year just never could get the output, the old receiver had enough hdmi inputs, still only output 480 - pre-setting the radio stations was done on the front panel of the reciever which i did not look at before - old reciever had the same controls on FP as the remote so never looked.

a dvd should be no problem

I'm thinkin' 'bout switchin' to low tech.

I'm tired of my life being run by gadgets, gizmo's, and robots.

Back to the Andy Griffith days...just a TV, and a dial telephone.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i am low tech in most everything - use a 8 yr cell phone and have never text'd - wife likes to watch tv so i need to keep her happy.

she was laughing at all the time i spent yesterday and my obvious aggravation - later when we went to bed she was watching tv and hit a button on the remote by accident and lost the tv signal - happens often with the 8 layers she has over her - i just waited for her to ask for help - less than 60 seconds later she was begging for me to fix it - funny what happens when the tide turns - changed the source back to tv and she was in business.

I'm thinking of getting rid of my cable TV. I waste too much time watching it. Has anyone every used Magic Jack or Vonnage for phone service?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Should have bargained for something, Bill. ^_^

I had Vonage long ago. Worked fine.

Thomaston, CT

I tried to use my niece's Nook...or maybe it was Kindle.....didn't like it....kept going back to page 1... I'm not a techie, but I do like my large screen tv.....no squinting necessary.....

Sad news here. My neighbors' son, who has been battling a brain tumor, is at the end. This will be their second loss of a child. They lost their eldest daughter to breast cancer about 12 years ago. This son is the eldest. Incredibly sad and tragic. My wife has been treating her (our neighbor - the mom) for Alzheimer's. They are the nicest family you could meet and have had so much sadness. So unfair.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

sigh.. hate hearing all this bad stuff.. just terrible

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

So sad, parents shouldn't have to bury their children.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks to all of you who have given me encouragement in my weight loss adventures. It's tough, I won't lie. And I know there will be weeks when I won't lose anything, or maybe even gain a bit. But even on the weeks where I lose only 1/2 a lb., at least it's something. Even on the weeks where I lose nothing, at least I didn't gain. And on the weeks I gain? Well, I'll just have to resolve to eat better and exercise more.

BA, I'll have to try the pb thing. We always have it here, but it's the kind with sugar in it. I did buy humus this week, and that is very low fat and high in fiber. Great with celery, as is the pb.

Very sad about you're neighbor's son, Victor, and their daughter as well. Too sad.

We got a blueray player for Christmas. Love it.

I got an Android phone just after Christmas. I love it so much more than my last phone, which was an HDC phone, and was pretty limited. Had all kinds of trouble with that one freezing up, etc. Always hanging up on people when I would put the phone between my cheek and shoulder. I've done that once with the new phone (which is the Samsung Galaxy S 2, btw). That's a problem with the touch screen phones, as they are heat sensitive. My cheek is pretty warm. I love all the apps I can get with it. I got the Nook app, which was free. So far have had no problems with it, though it had tons of bad reviews. Thought it wouldn't hurt to try it, as it was free.

Memory, I agree, cable TV takes up a lot of my time as well. But then so does the internet. Lately I have gotten into watching Game Of Thrones (HBO), Shameless (Showtime), and Angry Boys (HBO). Oh, and I bought the entire series of Six Feet Under on DVD and have been watching that, too.

It took 2 hours but he got 28 years. He also owes$ 74,000.00 to the family of Stefany Flores.
When he gets out he will be expeled from the country.
The bigger issue for him is ,surviving in that hellhole. I bet he gets shanked befor his scentancing is up.
