Anybody know anything about growing jicama? I am in zone 8/9 borderline coastal GA. Does Jicama need summer heat or winter cool to grow?

No. I look at the instructions a while back and decided that we were too far north for it.

I've never grown jicama, although it sounds familiar. I lived for 30+ years in South Florida (zone 10) and I think it grew there.

I love Jicama. they are plentiful in Hawaii and Mexico. i thnik you plant the seed and is harvested as a root crop.

I did some more research on growing jicama. I learned that most of the jicama available in the US was grown in Mexico. That's because Jicama needs nearly 9 months of warm weather to grow large roots. The only places in the US where that might be a possibility are southernmost CA, TX and FL. For the most part, it's considered "not feasible" for the US. It sounds like it would be too much trouble, so I'll just stick to my usual. Thanks for your comments.

I would like to raise banana's & I was wondering if anyone has had success with fruiting any bananas or if it is only for south america to grow.
