Gloxinia dropped all leaves

Halfmoon Bay, BC, BC(Zone 8a)

after a great blooming session I put my gloxinia in the best spot I have for it - allowing pot to dry out at 60 degrees in low light. Some leaves fell off like normal and other leaves seem to rot. All that is left is the bulb or root. Even after 2 weeks the soil is still damp; I wish it would dry out a little faster. The plant may have been in a draft as I open the cabin door to check on it. I recently was given this plant and I know it is over 5 years old and probably never re-potted.
Will this plant come back? Should I re-pot it at this time? If re-potting should I trim back the roots a little? Any other suggestions?

Gloxinias have a dormant time. Google up gloxinia and see what you can find out. Also, they are in the gesneriad family and you could look that up, too. I grew slipper glox from seed about 30 years ago and it did the same. I had it for about 5 years and it would go dormant and then come back. I also had a single glox that did the same. Luciee {;^)

If you want it to dry down before its rest and to decrease the chances the corm will rot, remove it from the pot & set it on a paper bag or section of newspaper, which will quickly pull moisture from and dry the soil.

Yes and then repot in fresh soil in the spring.

Wow! What great ideas! How silly of me, I never would have thought of drying it in a paper bag.... thanks so much.

The paper bag is a good idea. A word of caution, however, check the bag every few weeks to look for a sprout on your tuber. If left unchecked you could get a long neck sprout several inches long that won't produce a good looking plant....You might also check to make sure it hasn't gotten a soft spot or dried out too much.
