Gloxinia dropped all leaves

Halfmoon Bay, BC, BC(Zone 8a)

after a great blooming session I put my gloxinia in the best spot I have for it - allowing pot to dry out at 60 degrees in low light. Some leaves fell off like normal and other leaves seem to rot. All that is left is the bulb or root. Even after 2 weeks the soil is still damp; I wish it would dry out a little faster. The plant may have been in a draft as I open the cabin door to check on it. I recently was given this plant and I know it is over 5 years old and probably never re-potted.
Will this plant come back? Should I re-pot it at this time? If re-potting should I trim back the roots a little? Any other suggestions?

Cookie, I don't have much luck with those plants myself and yet, friends who grow them from seed say they are very easy and flower over a long period.
My only advice would be to make sure when you water these plants, not to water onto the foliage, these and many other plants that have tiny little hairs on the foliage are susceptible to rot, mold or other problems if the water sits on the foliage, I always water this kind of plant from the bottom, so I sit the pot in a saucer of tepid water and let the compost soak UP enough water that shows enough by the change in colour of the compost, it goes a darker shade, then remove the plant from the water, allow the rest of the water to drain out from the pot, then place the plant into the saucer it came from, these plants like light and dead heading, after the flowering season has gone, give the plants a rest and look out for new growing shoots emerge from the tuber early spring.
Hope this helps you out a bit. good luck, hope the plant picks up as they are lovely. WeeNel.

WeeNel, thank you for your advice. You have expanded your many points so a beginner gardener like myself can really understand them.
My grandmother used to give her gloxinia a rest in a cooler window without much light, but I don't remember them ever losing all their leaves. I surely hope this one comes back.
