We got home about 2am and it was raining, the weather people sure didn't predict that! Glad to see it because we have been pretty dry.
We got married at 4:00pm.
I wondered short of Las Vegas if it were possible to get married at mid-night + .01 lol
We tried, but that did not happen!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Happy Anniversary, LK.....and many more!

Joe just loved this thing that "showedup" in one of my out side pots.. so I have three packs of about 5 seeds if any of ya wanna try them. they are in fridge being stratified, since I have no clue if they need it or not..
Hellooooo! Where did everybody go? Is it me or is there an echo in here...lol
Cold days have me yearning for comfort foods with something other than cheesy recipes or beans. We had a sorta traditional New Year's Day meal with Sea Island Peas and Cabbage. I'd bought a small ham but hubby wanted cubed steak with gravy instead. My Mom would have shamed me for not cooking a collard or serving black-eyed peas. Anybody looking for a quick 20-minute supper or lunch using a store-bought rotisserie chicken? Cook any kind of pasta you like, tonight I used no-yolk egg noodles. Sprinkle cooked veggies you like on top. I used a can of English peas and baby carrots. Add chunks of roasted chicken and you have an easy meal in no time. I made chicken salad with the leftover chicken and we'll have sandwiches for lunch tomorrow and Friday with a bowl of soup.
Anybody else's mailbox being bombarded with seed catalogs? It's always such a temptation to order what's new or different, so I went through my seed stash to see if I already have some on my wish list. Geez I'm just about out of room in the gardens unless hubby wants to give up some turf, and I still have the new naked garden around the telephone pole and Maple tree from Spring that's only mulched. Then there's the container gardens I can only dream about having til Spring.
here is what I made for Christmas Day breakfast..
hash brown crust quiche.. it is a huge pan, I had to triple the recipe.. easy peasy to make, tho..
your meal with the chiken sounds yummy, I will try it..
we had pork tenderloin with apples and black eyed peas( crock potted) and cornbread muffins with jalepenos from scratch made by Joe.
Debra, is that plant you have seeds from a climber? It sure looks pretty. I would like to try it please?
You all are making me hungry, and I am ready for bed!
Happy New Year to all... we went to a hockey game on new years eve.... We Won! Then came home and I cooked a pot of black eyed peas in the pressure cooker. That is be quickest way to cooke them and yum were they good! I was surprised by the recipe on the back of the package (first time to do black eyed peas) it said to use ginger and honey so I did what it said.... willl DEFINITELY do that again! ... maybe a little less honey than it calls for... they were a little sweet. We all got seconds and I think dad had thirds! Chips, dip and champagne... LOL it was a nice night. There were plenty left over for New Years day evening when mom mad a nice skillet of cornbread and so we had that and ham. Watched the Dallas Cowbows beat themselves in the worst football game I think I have ever watched.
.... and how was your New Years?
ours was fun, we watched the youngins get ready for partying and my sis and I loked at each other and remembered how we used to KICK it for new years.. they were home from the party after midnight shortly.. and, my sis and my hubby celebrated life is good by ourselves..
Tammy, that recipe looks good..
LK, got ya on the seeds but they are not climbers.. they are a big leaved plant.. look up in PF's
You will love them..
Hey Tammie, glad to hear your team won! Dallas sure is looking sad this year!
I looked the up, and they sure are pretty flowers. Can't wait to try them!

Sorry your not feeling well Susie. So many getting this crud going around! Get plenty of rest, and hope your feeling better soon!
Don't know that plant, but it sure is pretty.
Susie I was just reading about one of these that showed up in the grass on a corner up the street.
It is an "old world" plant which dies down in summer and comes out now. I am going to dig it up some night when I am walking my dog as it is on city property and they will just mow it down.
I don't know much more about it except to say neat plant, and not surprised that it only just appeared based on my own research. ;)
Feel better and keep reading.

Susie, read all the negative posts about this plant! Looks like it is quite invasive, and hard to get rid of!
I Think it depends on the area in witch it grows as to how invassive it is for i saw it out there last winter but then it disappered so thought it died out & never gave it another thought till i saw it again the other day.
& it is still same size as last year when i saw it .
However ow that i have found when it is to bloom i'm going to watch it much closer. I would like to find more of it
for it dose green up the snowy garden bed :)
well time for me to call daddy for our afternoon chat , you all have a great day .
I have been trying to get that arum to grow for two years now. First one I saw was at Bonnies, I had to have one. I love the leaves. They can invADE my prperty when ever they want to! LMAO
good to hear from you, susie!
evening all This one is in full full but I Have DL's Irises & also an aster & Butterfly bush growing in the same area ,
it is the prettest plant in the garden right now :))) .
well time to lay back I have been playing with a couple gardening gifts for the swaps in the future good time to get them done For i cannot be around daddy yet Jim is doing a great job :) you all have a safe evening .
faye sorry to hear about ray T's & P's To You all .
susie
Faye, I have put you and Ray both on my prayer list...and you give that sweet man of yours a big hug from me. Blessings....Love Jo
Did you notice most people who posted negatives about Arum live in the Pacific Northwest? That makes me wonder if it's a plant that thrives in moisture. Take care of yourself, Susie. We had an unusually warm Fall and haven't had any snow yet, although several places in higher elevations like far Southwest Virginia and West Virginia had a decent snowfall New Year's Day and heard reports on the news the ski slopes in those areas were back in business again.
Jo, I know how much your sentiments mean to Faye and Ray :)
Faye, my heart breaks for you and Ray. I can't even imagine what you are going thru. We are all here for you.
Debra here is a wonderful article about the "Devils Claw" plant, http://waynesword.palomar.edu/ww0801.htm
It even explains how it was used in native baskets, very interesting.
Hi Susie glad you popped in, so sorry you are sick, timing is everything with your brother being there to help. Get well.
Arum a green plant in winter? Up where you are wowzer. Need to read up on this fellow....

Here is more planting info on the devil claw.
Hey Jo, nice to see you posting here! How are you doing?
Hi...I haven't read all these post but the Devil's Claw is very common in my area...in fact, I make lovely Dream Catchers with them...
I Shall Return...as said by Gen. MacArthur! LOL Jo
Would love to see some of your dream catchers?
I would love to see the dream catchers also. I did read they were very hardy in AZ and loved heat.
I have one that my nephew made me out of leather, it is very precious to me.
I'd like to see them too, Jo. I treasure the ladder ribbon necklace we made at our Round-Up last Spring. Which reminds me our State Parks are open again and need to book a Shelter at Fairy Stone, hope to get the same one. When you get a chance, D-mail me Saturday dates that would be good for you to travel in late May or anytime in June.
Debra, didn't I send you Devil's Claw seeds? I know I bought a pack last Spring, kept three seeds, and the rest may have been gobbled up in one of Susie's seed Robins. Of the three seeds I kept and germinated, two were beaten down by Spring rains before they hardly had a chance, and the remaining one I kept on our back porch but it never bloomed and eventually chucked it in the compost heap.
I can furnish some of you that wants them seeds of the Devil's Claw.
When I was visiting a National Park in Tucson, they had some Devil's claw on display that had 4 prongs on them. I have never seen any like that though. Jo
Look what I found on google!
These are so pretty!

Thanks, Taters....Those are some of my older ones....I now put bird feathers on the "tails". Jo
