growing peas and cucumbers indoors

Alburg, VT

has anyone had any luck growing peas, beans, or cucumbers during the winter indoors up the walls. I have a perfect space in my house to try this (and i will) but wondered if anyone had some advice for me???

Providing adequate light is usually the problem with growing anything other than "house plants" (which tend to come from low light understory habitats) indoors. Even bright windows rarely provide anything like the intensity of sunlight outdoors, and the problem is that much worse in winter, with the low sun angle and intensity.

I agree with the other gardener and must add that the problem I see would be pollination as for peas, IF they reached flowering size, there is a lot of flowers to be pollinated by hand where outside the insects do this job for us, Cucumbers can easily be hand pollinated, beans are like the peas.
I know all the peas / beans I grow here like a deep, well manured /composted soil for a decent crop but cucumbers like tomato can be pot grown with good success rates, for the peas / beans I would imagine you would require a very large deep container and a huge amount of water too but you know what, a packet of seeds wont break the bank so maybe you can give it a try and let us all know how you got on, other things good indoors are peppers, chillies, and all those sort of things, here in Scotland I have to grow all those inside greenhouse in our summer as we have a very short season which may be another problem as winter light maybe wont be enough to give you flowers and no flowers means no fruit or pods.
Good luck anyway and happy gardening. Weenel.
